liastra Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I asked my program coordinator what the policy for mastering out is and he said that it isn't possible since there's no master's program. Is this really true? I thought they could "create" a masters?
username1824 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Some programs will offer a master's even if they don't have a master's program, but not all of them will.
aba1984 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Good thing for anonymity on these forums. That question would send chills down every department chair's spine but yeah, what 1824 said... elanorci and perfectionist 2
aberrant Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I believe that interdisciplinary programs that consist of faculties and research from multiple departments may not offer master's degree in that interdisciplinary field. In my school, my program doesn't offer a MS degree, although you can choose to drop out from this program and get a MS degree from the department of your advisor (ps. you'll still need to fulfill and complete the MS requirement for that particular department, which could be different that the original program).
knightrunner Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I could imagine every department giving evil stares at this question even though it is a totally legitimate innocent question. Not ever program will let you master out. Some websites will tell you there department policy, but you might want to do a little bit of reading on which ever school you plan to be in.
