Hello, everyong! I'm a student from China who is applying for MSF program in the US. Currently, I have finished most work of application process and achieved satisfactory results. The range of final choice has been narrowed down to two programs: Mfin of Tulane and SMF of OSU.

There comes the problem: the lack of information. All the data I could get from the official website are showing good qualities of these universities, and I'm sure both Freeman and Fisher have the attractive factors and projects for me. However, I need more information to make my final decision. According to the limited messages on our domestic forums, Tulane gets high standard courses of finance and is warm to international students; Fisher has great reputation and excellent course modules.

However, some of the students of our forums who had their university lives in Fisher told me that this place was not as good as I thought it would be. They had some opinions about Fisher's courses and wouldn't tell me concrete details. It surely a bad news for me since I almost make SMF of OSU my decision.

I wouldn't pay attention to the location. They are both OK. I put a lot of concerns on the quality of these two programs. If there could be any advice or information about these two programs, that would be really helpful.

You should e-mail some of the professors in the programs, especially ones you might be interested in working with. Get a sense from your conversation of what the community is like, etc. You could also request to be be put in touch with some current students/recent alumni. They'll be able to tell you much more information about the pros/cons of a program than a PR website.

Ohio State has a large number of international students, and both the universty itself and the city of Columbus have a very active Chinese community. I have no idea about Tulane, but speaking as someone who has previously lived in Asia, I think it's a good bet that you would more comfortable with the community and lifestyle in the midwest (Ohio) than in the south (Louisiana). I would get some input with someone who is familiar with Tulane/New Orleans, though!

I went to Tulane for undergrad. I was not in business but had roommates and friends that were and they spoke very highly of the program. All had job offers before even graduating both in town and out of town. And these were undergrads, says something about the program, no?

Tulane's campus is beautiful and very friendly towards international students.

A story I heard on my visit before attending was that one year the students in the department were given access to some of Tulane's stocks and investments and were told to manage them and the students generated a higher profit for the university per unit of money than those professionals paid to do it. Just a fun story I heard and thought was interested.

Tulane is a great school and New Orleans is am amazing town to live in. I am biased, though.

Good luck!

I am a current MACCT student at Tulane. In my opinion, it is really a good choice. A lot of Chinese here, you will never feel uncomfortable and professors are very nice.

As I know, there are about 200 Mfin students this year and almost 90% of them are Chinese. The courses of Mfin always need to write a lot of papers and some professors are really good.

Also, Freeman awalys has kinds of networking activities to help students communicate with others, and they also invite some successful people who graduate from Freeman to share their experiences.

Above is my experience. In addition, I think there is a QQ group for new students.

Good luck!

(just to add this here) New Orleans has a HUGE Vietnamese population and also a pretty sizable South Asian population.  But Vietnam isn't China, so OSU may be what you'd want if you're looking for other Chinese students.

Hi all...I just got an LoA from Freeman's Master of Management in Energy. I have the same concern as Sylvia, about International Students and the education quality. Has anyone any thoughts about that?

I'm from Indonesia and had so far got a basic info only from the web and my educational advisor.

I'm also wondering about the living expenses in New Orleans. It'll be helpful if any of you can share a story.

FWIW, business students at OSU manage multi-million funds (I know this from browsing Wikipedia yesterday!)
