Thesis/Dissertation Breakthroughs

Have you ever been stuck on your research for so long that when you finally have the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for, you just want to weep with joy and relief? 

 

That was me with today. I cried for thirty minutes straight and then took a nap. 

 

Anyone else gone through the same thing?

Yes!!  I had 389 coding sheets, one for each newspaper article I coded.  One day, my thesis advisor and I were talking things over at our weekly meeting, and she started writing down a few words ... and then we came up with how to turn complete chaos into beautiful organization.  

 

Our reaction to the breakthrough?  We both just started laughing hysterically.
