JewishSombrero Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hi guys, I was told my first choice will be sending out decisions by the end of February. That being said, I visited my first choice back in November and clicked very well with the faculty - one professor I talked with for over an hour and a half (Is that a good sign?)! I'm dying to e-mail him something along the lines of "Just wanted to say that X is still my first choice and I really think I'm a great fit" to remind him during the eleventh hour of deliberation but is that appropriate? Is that a big faux paus on here? Better yet - are there any cons to doing this?

I personally feel that it's not a good idea to contact someone completely unfamiliar with your background on the last minute because it's going to appear like you're just freaking out or that he/she (the POI) wasn't your first choice. Your letter should say something like "we met and discussed about ... last November". Good luck!

I strongly disagree with this statement; If you really did have such a good connection they have not forgotten about you. Contacting them like this will come off as pandering. Just suck it up and wait it out.
spectastic Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I would ask if they have seen my application, and if they would have any direct feedback. As a matter of fact, I'm about to do that when I get a chance on Monday. I exchanged emails with a professor who said that he liked my CV and is willing to answer my questions. But that was back in November.
