Is anyone looking for an apartment already for September 2014? I'm heading to McGill and I don't know anyone in Montreal. Anyone looking for a roommate? Any tips on apartment hunting?

How much do you guys spend per week on groceries?

Haha. Clever. I meant that I thought Walmarts are local/US only. -

After reading this thread, I had to search online and I am so amazed to find out that there is Walmart in Montreal (or Canada for that matter). This is good news. Haha. -
Me too. iPad and and a MacBook Pro, for over a year now.

Agreed 100%. Enthusiasm and specific interest are key discussion points. In my case though I discussed these things in my email changes with POI. The ECE department at McGill doesn't require an SOP. In fact you can't upload one. You can only fill in a form where each box asks you to discuss achievements, experiences, etc. It was all about the stats and numbers. I had to find a way to get my plans and vision across so I decided to find a POI after two weeks of submitting my application. I shot an email and the rest is history.

The status will stay "In Review" until the official offer from GPS will arrive. You will get an email with the subject "Significant decision made" when you have been accepted and the status at uApply will also change from "In Review" to "Decision Made". -

Hey man, any news? Have you decided to pursue grad school this year, or work at the industry? I was browsing through the forum and remembered this conversation. -

Got into McGIll, Electrical and Computer Engineering. My undergrad GPA is ~3.5 (not sure, I did my own grades conversion). I say go ahead and apply! -
Pro if you do a lot of simulations and programming. Air for reading and word processing.

Cool. Also, the department does not require the $300 deposit when accepting the offer so no actual commitment until you decide to register later on. -

From what I understand, the final details regarding funding should be released this week (not later than April). Did you accept the offer at uApply already? -

Hola hector6420! No official docs on funding yet but my professor said he's in the process of finalizing it. What's your area of research? Have you been assigned a supervisor already? Thanks and congrats on your admission as well! -

Got official offer of admission from Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies today for my acceptance at McGill's Electrical and Computer Engineering's MEng program. -
Wow. One day after receiving the letter of acceptance from McGill U's Department of Electrical and Computer and Engineering, I received the final official Offer of Admission from Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. I will now begin working on my immigration papers.

That is That is so uncool. This is the first time I've ever read of a case like this. Did you get any form of letter with with the school's letterhead and signed by a chairperson?

Who should I email??? Grad admissions or my POI?
scottdickson86 replied to doingthings's topic in Waiting it Out
Emailing the POI is not a bad idea at all. Emailing the POI multiple times in the span of one week is a different story. If you haven't done the latter then you're good. -

scottdickson86 replied to Orims's topic in Waiting it Out
Today, I received my official letter of acceptance from the department through email. The mail was there the second time I woke up during the night to check my Inbox. I woke up 2:15 AM, and then at 3:45 AM without any alarm clock assistance. The first sentence of the attached LOA is very sweet: "On behalf of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), I am pleased to inform you that we have recommended to Enrollment Services-Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) that you be accepted to the MEng Thesis Program beginning September 2014" My next phase of waiting will be for the final funding details. Bring it on.
