  1. Thanks a lot! Haha. I appreciate it. Now I have to wait for the details on funding. I can't afford it if at least the tuition isn't covered. Haha.
  2. Dude, I just got an email from my POI saying that he recommended me for admission. Haha. Finally I can catch up on my sleep!
  3. My wait is over! Got an email from POI, recommended for admission. Funding details to follow. Haha.
  4. I haven't been sleeping well recently. The last words from my POI during my interview keeps playing in my head: "I'm going to decide on Monday or Tuesday next week so you won't have to wait for too long. I know it's not an easy feeling to wait; I can still remember when I was applying to grad school myself." I don't mind the lack of sleep. I just want to know already.
  5. I think that maybe the best time to do this would be before or immediately after applying? Submitting an application would imply that you understood the requirements of the program and have self-assessed your qualifications, I think.
  6. I've only applied to one. The waiting is torture!
  7. Same. Waiting for McGill. Congrats on Queens!
  8. Haha. UIUC. Man, your choices are awesome. Thanks and good luck to you too!
  9. I did the exact same thing. Hope things work out! Make sure you don't have any meetings immediately before or after the interview. Believe me, you are gonna wanna to talk it out with someone after the interview. Good luck!
  10. I hear that some schools also send out notifications for those they put on the wait list. Do you know how the school you applied to historically handles admission results distribution? I think you can use the Results section to trace back, or better yet ask people that you know who went there.
  11. I think it's fair to ask. If I were in your shoes, I'd definitely try.
  12. Thanks, man! I hope you're right. And good luck on your application as well. Wait, are you already admitted? Caltech is a great choice!
  13. I've read it in the "what were you doing when you got accepted" post. Haha. The acceptance letter was sitting in the junk mail for three days. Haha.
  14. Sweet. I wish I was your professor. Haha
  15. Oh wow! I would freak out if that happened to me!
  16. Yeah. It's the only university I applied to.
  17. Hi guys, Has anyone applied to McGill University under Electrical and Computer Engineering, Masters? Heard anything from POIs or the department yet? I think Masters for Computer Science and Chemical Engineering are already releasing results.
  18. If the POI has already met you, I think a follow up email would be okay. I personally feel that it's not a good idea to contact someone completely unfamiliar with your background on the last minute because it's going to appear like you're just freaking out or that he/she (the POI) wasn't your first choice. Your letter should say something like "we met and discussed about ... last November". Good luck!
  19. Real time. When you submit a result, you can specify the date that you received the notification (via email, portal, or phone call). The entries in the Results page however are sorted according to when they were submitted by the users. Good luck!
  20. I think a nice thank you note is a great idea. I'm thinking about writing the note on the first empty page of the book "How NASA Builds Teams." One of the persons who wrote my LOR is a section manager for product engineers. I'll keep the note short and sweet too cause I think it sounds more profound that way. Haha.
  21. My POI said "Let's begin with you telling me about yourself for five minutes." I told him about my undergrad, why I chose my major, the work I've done in the last five years, and why I want to pursue grad school. He was typing all the things that I was saying. I can hear his keyboards. Haha I think this question just gauges your motivation for applying to grad school. When I interview new college graduates for entry level engineering positions at work, I ask the question simply to know how much the kid wants the job. People who can tell you exactly why they're doing something usually get your attention. You want someone who wants something and can tell you exactly why.
  22. Yeah it's keeping me guessing a lot. And two think he decides in three days in nerve wrecking!
  23. That's what's up. Good luck!
  24. That depends on when the deadline was. I personally feel that if they're already in the middle of reviewing applications, a late getting in touch might be interpreted as a panic attack (LOL). The POI might also even think that he or she is just your second choice, meaning you've given up hope that your top choice POI would respond. I don't know, just my thoughts. Haha
  25. I would probably send him an email. I know it's going to be nerve wrecking to even compose an email for that but I guess I would prefer that over waiting. I would muster the courage to do it!
