Hahaa...yeah make sure we do it animal style. I really hope you get a scholarship because paying 100k for grad schools is just a bad investment. Best of luck! Like I said, my friend did not get any scholarships but she called and negotiated for some.

Hahhaha if I end up at BU, we (you & guyinshorts) can all have an In n Out party!! I just heard back from USC today, but do not have scholarship info yet. I'm torn because I really wanna do trauma and Veteran research and USC is a great program for that. However, theyre also very unlikely to provide scholarships to incoming students so I can't really justify paying $90k for USC but around $40 for BU...ughhh I hate needing to make these decisions!!!

yeah, I am a very logical and rational person, and 100K for any school regarding social work is not happening regardless of programs that help you pay  for your debt. Unfortunately, nothing in the future is ever guaranteed, and I cannot rely on these other programs when I do not know literally what will happen to me or them.

Do you know how much your friend received in the end?

Hey, does anyone have any knowledge about the trauma-focus programs offered by BU and Simmons? E.g. which program offers better training in trauma, what is the difference between a "certificate" (BU) versus a "specialization" (Simmons), do either the certificate or specialization appear on your diploma?

BU offers a Trauma Certificate Program (TCP) but it is limited to 10 students per year. Students are paired with a BU graduate of the TCP and a faculty mentor.

Simmons College offers a Trauma and Interpersonal Violence Specialization, and you basically just take electives to receive this.

On a slightly different note - do anyone else plan to attend Simmons College's MSW Info Session this Thursday at 6pm? I will be attending so let me know if you are too! Or if any of you have any questions that you'd like me to ask for you, feel free to post here or PM me!

My neighbor is doing her Ph.D at Simmons. She said that the best scholar has left Simmons. However, the program is still strong. Simmons is pretty clinical-focus in the Boston area. I don't know if you are going to practice in California. But I will look into the curriculum and decide. I may choose Simmons over BU because I heard that BU is more macro.

As for myself, I honestly don't know where I will be going. I think I may choose BC because of the curriculum. It seems like BC require less hours in the first Spring semester. I think this is more doable to me since I will keep my full-time job. I am going to use one more day to think. At the same time, I think 20k is doable I am so torn now!

sweetpiepear, HopefulMSW, guyinshortsallday,

CONGRATS to you three! and everyone else on this forum (there are quite a few of you) who have been accepted to BU. I'm also from the Bay Area. That would be fantastic to meet up. I've never lived on the east coast, so thank you to everyone who's provided lots of tips about Boston, comparative MSW programs etc.

So far I have been accepted to Smith, Simmons, and BU for Clinical Social Work. I'm still waiting on BC.

So far I've chosen to go to Boston U because of the quality of the program, location, logistics, and above all else they offered me the Urban Practice Scholarship. Smith and Simmons offered me very little and I cannot afford  to incur that debt.

I'm a little worried about BC because I haven't heard from them. If I'm accepted there, it will be a deliberation between BU and BC depending on the funding.

I'm visiting BU in the next few weeks to check out the campus, really excited!

Hi strathernxf2 (wow that was difficult to type correctly  ), CONGRATS you to as well; you got into quite a few programs!!  I have another week to decide between Simmons and BU (both are offering me similar scholarships), so I'm gonna take the advice from all of you on how to select the right program for me. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Looks like there will be quite a few of us going to Boston from the Bay Area - we should definitely meet up at some point! It would be worthwhile if only to share tips about how to make this move most cost effective, and oh, I'm already dreading the process of finding an apartment to rent in the Boston area!

I will be visiting BU and Simmons College this week, so I will update anyone who is unable to make the trip themselves and would like more information.

Best of luck to all of you on choosing the program that fits best with your needs!

I wish you all the best of luck on your future endeavors. I will make my decision regarding Boston this week. I will most likely not go to BU because of the daunting costs. However, I hope you enjoy it on the east coast.

I am going to try my luck out here and stay in California, so wish me luck. When you all decide to come back to CA, I'll be your guy (hopefully with networks) to help or assist you all in getting established.

Just remember one thing: The west coast is the best coast (had to do it) [no argument can contest the aforementioned statement] lol

I am totally joking if I accidentally offend people.

Send positive thoughts and energy my way for the schools in CA!

Please message me if you haven't already done so in order to exchange contacts for the future. It is a tough world out there, so us social workers need to stick together :)
