Hi there guys,

I have received a letter of admission from a top five engineering school, where my major is ranked no.1. They are considering my fellowship and other financial support.

Is it important if I confirm the admission before I am notified about my fellowship?

I wanna hear your opinions!!! Thank you so much!

Confirm the admission? Do you mean an e-mail acknowledging their letter of admission? If so, go for it. Writing a short note to acknowledge the offer is a polite way to confirm that you received it.

By contrast, if you mean accepting their offer of admission, I would strongly caution against it unless you are willing to go without any funding. It's unlikely to influence their funding decision.

Thanks,

Your suggestion is helpful, indeed. I wrote a short note to them saying I am planing to continue my studies at their department. After 1 week, they sent me the official letter and provided all information such as account, email, ID as if I were a registered student.

How to prepare for an interview with my potential advisor? I have a little knowledge about the field of his research.

Well, you did ACCEPT their offer when you told them that you were planning to continue your studies with them.

Ooops...I just noticed how fishy this thread is.  The question was asked on 2/22, advice was given 2/22, and the above response was posted 2/22.  It's impossible to accept advice a week before you get the advice...

Weird...

Maybe his first post ("I have received a letter of admission") was referring to an UNOFFICIAL letter, followed by an OFFICIAL letter a week later ("After 1 week, they sent me the official letter"). If that's the case, the advice giving/taking could have taken place at any time. But it's still weird to receive two letters (as opposed to emails), so that doesn't really make sense either lol
