Hi!

I have received admits from UCSD and UT-Austin, both in electronic circuits and systems track. I would like to concentrate further on Analog design/RF during my Masters. Which of these schools would be a better choice for me?

Also, how are the job opportunities after pursuing MS from either of the schools?

Thank u!

Both will have excellent opportunities after you graduate. You need to visit both schools and see what city and campus you like more, what has better financial aid (or cheaper), and if your doing research what professors you like more.

Personally, I would choose Austin because I like the vibe more than SD and the UC's are running out of money.

UCs aren't running out of money I guarantee. If you want analog/RF, UCSD hands down. Their relationship with Qualcomm is excellent for their grad students.

If you want to ever work in CA, UCSD has amazing RF connections and faculty.

Thank you very much for the inputs! Research in my area of interest is good in both the colleges. However, my concern is job opportunities in Texas. i know that UCSD has a pretty favorable location as Qualcomm is nearby. Can somebody shed light on ECE placements after graduating from UT-Austin in the field of analog design?

Thanks!

People pursuing Masters in ECE at UT Austin! Please respond..also I recently heard that all major companies are shifting to Texas and it would be better to choose UT over UCSD. Please help!

UT Austin:

Austin warmer, vibrant tech startup community, has AMD, Samsung, Intel, facebook, Apple. Dell headquarters in Austin.

Samsung has been trying to heavily recuit UT ECE students with 3.8+ GPA (high standard, huh)? Apple is looking for people who know GUI.

Although I think UCSD has Qualcomm and much better weather and beaches. If UCSD is your state school then definitely go to UCSD.

Engineering is about what you can create, so as long as your school is decent, doesn't matter where you went.

UCSD is better for your EE subfield, and realistically for EE in general. Don't overlook the reputation of the UC system for engineering, especially for UCSD and Berkeley. UCSD also has a lot of funding for their ECE. Job opportunities will be great in both places, but San Diego is a hotspot for wireless communications jobs. If you move away from San Diego, California has TONS of EE jobs. I'd also prefer San Diego.

Thank you everyone! Yes I have been told that for specifically Analog/RF UCSD is better but UT Austin is such a reputed school..making it a very difficult choice!

Hi people!

I have recently received an admit from Georgia Tech too which has confused me further. Which school among Gatech, UCSD and UT Austin is the best for VLSI? (more towards analog design).

Gatech and UT have a better ranking compared to UCSD. I have heard Gatech is good for power management while UCSD for RF. Haven't heard about any sub field at Austin. How much do university rankings on US News matter? Also. Gatech has taken huge intake this fall, is this good or bad?

My final aim is to work on designing circuits (not just verification jobs). Which university could provide the best research opportunities as well as jobs? Please help!

Thank you.
