naomi6 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Has anyone or know someone who have been accepted into a PhD program without getting an interview? More specifically for educational psychology? I looked at the research results from the past (2010 -13) and some people submitted that they got interviewed during that time period... I applied to five schools and haven't gotten any interview invitation... I received on rejection letter so far, should I assume the others will reject me as well?
PsychGirl1 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Rule of thumb: if a program interviews and have already have their interview day, that's basically a rejection. If the program doesn't interview, then who knows. Follow up with the admins of each department to check on the status of your application. naomi6 1
likemythesis Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I agree with above. I was accepted to UT Austin for Educational Psych without an interview, but I am pretty sure they don't interview at all. naomi6 1
madame Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I just got accepted to SUNY Albany PhD in educational psychology without an interview so it's definitely possible. naomi6 1
karen1204 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I'm glad I found this thread. I recently got accepted to the Ed Psych program (focusing in measurement and stats) at the University of Illinois at Chicago without an interview. I was a bit puzzled at first, because I thought interviewing was the norm. I guess the popularity of interviews vary between schools? Or does the absence of interviews mean something else?
PsychGirl1 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Clinical psych programs interview, almost always. For other areas, such as educational or quant or I/O psych, it seems much more program-dependent. As in, the program either interviews or it doesn't (not usually candidate-dependent, unless like someone said above, something funky happens with the waitlist- although in clinical psych, they usually interview 2-5 people for a spot, so even people who end up on the waitlist were interviewed). Sometimes these programs do have admitted students weekends, though.
naomi6 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 From the responses, I'm going to make the inference that it varies.... And just because you haven't received an interview does not equate rejection... Anything goes until you get the decision letter... Thanks y'all :-)
