Giulietta Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Hello to all,I'm new on this forum and I decided to record me to open this topic about Inter-disciplinary.net.I am a Ph.D studente and two weeks ago I sent a proposal for a conference organized by the Inter-disciplinary.net on the theme of forgiveness. Yesterday I learned that my proposal was accepted but I am a bit skeptical about the usefulness of participating in this conference for which I have to pay £ 297. I wanted to know if any of you have ever attended at a conference organized by this research network and wants to tell me about his experience and his views. Thanks for your help, Giulia
ArthChauc Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Hi! I've applied to/been accepted by a conference put on by inter-dis and asked a few profs about the reputation. None of them seemed to know much but they all agreed that it was a ridiculous amount of cash, especially since my conference was to be in Portugal and I'm a US graduate student here in the states. I decided not to attend based on the lack of reputation and price alone, but I'm interested to hear from anyone who has actually attended. I know that they tend to be pretty rigid (they provide meals and you're expected to come on the first day and stay through the last) and that they're normally in pretty cool locations. I would say that if you have the cash, it's at least a line on your CV and probably can't hurt you. If you don't, clearly your abstract was interesting and you could probably find another conference that's cheaper or more renowned. I know this isn't terribly helpful, but I hope it at least gives you an idea!
Giulietta Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Thank you so much for your response. I am very torn about what to do and on the internet I can not find any kind of information.
shortstack51 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I haven't heard of it, but perhaps some general advice might help: I was informed by my school's adcomm that conferences (or publications) aren't necessarily going to add anything to your CV eif they're through unknown organizations. It seems like quite a bit of money for something that won't yield many results. If you want to get experience presenting, I agree that clearly your topic is interesting and you can probably find cheaper conferences to attend.
