When you decide for sure, you'll have to let us know!  I'm trying to sort out housing, which is turning in to quite the adventure.

Posted

Definitely. I'm hoping my boyfriend will be able to come with otherwise I'm going to be on the hunt for roommates. Luckily I have a car so I can live a bit out of State College and save some money.

I'm afraid to live too far out of town because (confession time) I am not capable of driving in snow.  I also don't have a 4 wheel drive, just a sedan-type car.  That's my only concern with living more than a couple of miles from campus... >.>

I drive a Toyota corolla but I'm from the northeast originally so driving in snow isn't my favorite but I can do it. I just don't want to live surrounded by undergrads.

Yea, I have been given a lot of advice by current students that boils down to "do not live downtown/near undergrads".  I'm looking at a few places that apparently only lease to grad students and professionals, so there are some options for that in town I think.  I have heard that Bellfonte (just outside State College) is very nice, though!

Also looking for apartments in the area. My decision is not totally official yet but highly probable. Good luck to you both.

Do either of your departments do like a roommate match or anything? I'm super nervous about finding roommates if my boyfriend doesn't go to Penn.

^That is my main concern at the moment. I have not heard anything of the sort from my department. Although I plan on asking when I visit later this month. There are a few "roommate requests" postings on Craigslist and I sure hope more pop up soon. It does not help that I have been watching Investigation Discovery Channel all week long non stop. At this point, I'm terrified my roommate will be a serial killer or I'll alone and attract a stalker. Lose-Lose situation :(

Investigation discovery is so creepy! If I wind up going and he doesn't I'm going to email the department and ask. I'd rather live with someone than alone. We'll see I guess!

Hey, I'm very heavily considering Penn State, and I am looking to live in the downtown area (extremely walkable).  If anyone would be interested in a sharing a place in that area let me know !

Unfortunately, I'm no good for finding roommates as I'll be bringing my S.O. (soon to be married) with me.  I'm not sure if my department offers roommate matching or not, although I do think Penn State has some student housing available for grads.  I believe those with children and/or spouses get priority for that, though.  I'm not sure what the conditions there are like either!

trizzleYO - A current student who I stayed with while visiting had a pretty nice apartment downtown in building that only leases to grads/and professionals.  If I could remember the name of it, I'd pass it on.  If I think of it, I'll let you know.

Hey everyone - how's the housing hunt going?  I recently signed a lease on a place.  It's got an earlier move in date than I wanted, but it'll give me more time to settle in before the fall semester starts.  Hope you're all doing well.

My SO is still figuring out his life so I'm not sure of my housing situation as of yet. My department is sending my housing info at the end of April. Since I have a car I think I have a lot of flexibility and shouldn't really have an issue finding a place in a month or so.

@Munashi where did you wind up finding a place?

Posted

I'm reluctant to say exactly where for fear of identifying myself, but essentially I put myself on a wait list at a particular property.  Believe it or not, they only have ONE unit become available (all of their lease renewals happen around the same time).  So I snagged it!  But there aren't any other openings, unfortunately.. otherwise, I'd share where I'm going.

I have decided to accept Penn State's offer and will be joining you this Fall. However, I started looking for a place to live a bit late. I would much rather live near campus since i won't have a car (at least for the first year).

Did your departments have sent you anything related to housing? I'm afraid I won't be receiving this kind of stuff from my department..

Do you guys have any comments/tips or suggestions of nice places near campus (or at least near a bus route)?

My department hasn't sent me anything about housing, I did my own search.  Talk to current students in your program and see if they can recommend anything.  I know someone who lives in The Allenway (downtown, right by campus) without a car, but renting there is very competitive and they may already be full.

Hey!

I moved pretty quickly on a place in Regency Square (downtown, grad / professional building).  I have heard very good things about the place, and the rent is not too crazy considering the space and location.  I would scour craigslist for any more openings in the building.  It has a walkscore of 98 (!) and campus is pretty much right across the street.

To everyone else, hopefully you are excited for the Fall!  We should plan some meet up type thing because I will have no friends when I get there :).
