tunamindmelt Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Well, first I vowed not to step into the forum realm. Then I observed them anxiously for months. And now I have realized that there is a slim chance I will go to grad school as planned. I have started to topic for people who are re-evaluating their plans, to discuss their options, to brainstorm, and to share ideas. I am certainly going to apply with all my might to the Whitney ISP however it is quite the stretch for me, as my work clearly defines me as an object maker. I just need to establish that while I am an object maker, I am also a thinker- and this is the part of my work that needs to expand. I need to haul ass on this application! Does anybody have experience applying for it or know anybody that has done it? When that application is complete (April 1) I will continue to brainstorm additional alternate plans. Anybody know of any unique art-life experiences in NY? SCULPTURE 2014 Yale- rejected columbia- assumed rejected cca- interviewed saic- interviewed vcu-silence ucla- assumed rejected Good luck to all! mlk Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 the whitney independent studio is very competitive and for artists working at a highly theoretical level. most people there already have their MFAs or have been working as artists for a while. it's very conceptual and not at all geared towards object making. the two people I knew who did it already graduated from columbia years and years back - one of whom was teaching undergraduates at columbia. never say never, of course, but I think if you are not getting accepted to MFA programs you should not apply to the Whitney ISP.
