Has anyone heard anything from Penn State?

The results board is just confusing me.

Someone posted on Feb. 5th that they had been accepted via phone and that "they were still putting together actual letters due to some staff changes, but wanted to call because they know how stressful the waiting process is."

After seeing that post, I called the department and was told decisions would be made in the next month (so I don't know if that acceptance is accurate or not) and that everyone would be contacted through snail mail.

Then on March 7th, there were two results (but I assume it was the same person just accidentally making duplicates because the posts were identical) saying they had been put on the wait-list (contacted via email) for the Master's program (not sure if that means NOT the MA/PhD route).

I've emailed the department grad office account and the graduate chair and I've not heard anything back yet. Does anyone know anything? From looking at results of previous years, it seems like Penn State can be really awful at letting people know and they are my last school to hear from. I kind of just want this process to be over already.

I'm not sure if you've found out more since posting, but I thought I'd mention that I contacted the DGS directly via email a week ago and received a response informing me that I am on a 'functional wait list.' The information i got was minimal--nothing about my chances, position on the list, a timeline, etc. I believe the department has scheduled an open house for the beginning of April, so i imagine if you haven't heard back one way or another by now then you are either in the same position as me, or you will eventually hear bad news...

Hope this helps!

I applied to their MA/PhD program, and have yet to hear anything at all from them. As it looks like some acceptances have gone up on the results board, I'm assuming that I've been rejected, and am expecting to receive a rejection letter in the mail. From looking at the results from previous years, it seems like the department sends out rejection letters in late March and they sometimes don't arrive until April. I really wish they'd just email, just so I'll know for sure.

I know! They are my last school to hear from and I want to start making final decisions and plans. I'm thinking it will be a rejection for me as all, but there has only been two postings on the results board.

I know what you mean! I have a couple more schools to hear from but I really want to start making definite plans soon. But yeah, there really haven't been many acceptances posted yet, so I guess there's always a chance.

Hey all-- I was one of the two acceptances on the results board (the second one, I think). Like I indicated on the board, I was lucky to slide in from the wait list. I'm afraid I don't have any insight into their process, timeline, or the possibility of remaining spots. I would say that I didn't even know I was on the wait list until I emailed to ask about my status; at this point, I would say you're justified to send an inquiring email, but maybe that's just me. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat. I haven't heard anything, so I e-mailed the DGS on Monday with no reply yet.

After emailing the English graduate department, I was informed that initial offers have been made, and as students opt to go elsewhere, there may be a few more offers, but it is pretty unlikely that I would be hearing any good news in the coming weeks.

The person I spoke to was very kind, and fortunately now I can stop compulsively checking my mail/email!

So, here hoping that the last few spots go out to some of you!
