whamcrushington Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Hey everybody, I wanted to know your thoughts on the big three general psychology masters programs. I have been accepted to William & Mary as well as Villanova. I'm still waiting on Wake Forest. Does anybody know which of these three schools has the highest PhD acceptance rate? My ambitions are multidisciplinary, so there isn't that one faculty member that really sways me. I think there's a few faculty members in each program that fit my needs, so trouble deciding there. If all three are funded with stipend, trouble deciding there. Any juicy info out there that can help me decide. I CANNOT visit. I'm too broke to fly east. Any thoughts? HELP!
PsychGirl1 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 "I'm too broke to fly east"- my best advice is: suck it up and get out to the East Coast. This is too important of a decision, and long-term will be worth the investment. You will want to meet people in person, see the campus, see the lab's, and get the HONEST info from the current students that would be hard to obtain in other ways. Alternatively, ask if you can speak to 1-2 people at the current program over the phone, and speak to your future mentor(s) if you know who you want to work with. Do it over the phone, so that you can get a sense of tone/personality/etc. But honestly, it's worth the money to come see them in person, in my opinion. Quant_Liz_Lemon 1

I am still waiting for Wake as well. I spoke to the grad coordinator early in the app process and he told me that they have a 100% record of students getting into a PhD program.
green90 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 A 100% record? How long has that program been around?
green90 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) And how many students per year from Wake apply to PhDs? Where do they apply? Where are they accepted? Edited March 16, 2014 by green90
psych111 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I think it varies from year to year, but all I know is those who applied to phd do get in at least somewhere. I might call the department tomorrow to an update... I'm getting a little anxious!!
Ceci Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 W&M is amazing. The fact you got in is astonishing in it's own right. If you graduate there you can get into any school in the region easy.
whamcrushington Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 100%? Hmm... I got my official W&M snail mail acceptance last friday and they gave the figure "upwards of 80%" for PhD acceptance. I really hope Wake makes some contact this week and I have no idea when Villanova will let me know about assistantship. I can't wait for this to be over...

I called them today and they told me that all rejection letters were already mailed out, so if you haven't received one, you can assume that you are wait listed.
