coffee_maniac Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I got admission and now I am contacting professors for assistantship. The professor that I am super interested in told me to contact her about RAship position in August. I am like, is it normal? Aren't we supposed to make a decision on april 15 th? I am really inclined to this school but what if the professor told me there is no funding in August? Then I have to pay for all the tuition..... Compared with this, another school at least gives me half scholarship.... What shall I do? Thank you for suggestions!
abby_wyn Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I think you should email her and explain yourself. Ask her about whether the possibility of getting a RA-ship is high. Also, contact the department and finaid. I will do everything in my power to find out about the chance. My understanding is sometimes we have to be super proactive. Best of luck! I am kinda on the same boat.
iPsych Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Definitely find out about the likelihood that funding will be there in August! I've also been accepted to a school that can't guarantee funding until July because that is when they will know if their grants are approved. That's possibly what is going on at your university as well! I spoke with my POI and she gave me information about how likely it is that they will receive the funds this year, how much it would be if they did receive the funds and how successful they've been funding past students. It was really very helpful!
