I only have 6 schools left for counseling phD fall 2016. haven't heard anything about interviews yet.... question: Is interview a normally necessary step towards admission for PhD in counseling psychology If I don't get anything from the schools. Does it mean it is likely a no? I am panicking, that is why I ask.... maybe I drank to much coffee....

Rejected by Counseling Psychology PhD: University of Wisconsin-Madison. Southern Illinois University - Carbondale meh. not cool.....

I am a student of BU studying MS in counseling psychology. What's up

Northwestern University, clinical psychology didn't read the rejection, but saw the word "regret", and knew what's going on. So delete it. I guess northwestern is not fortunate enough to have me there....

It seems like canadian schools are more strict about deadlines than the US schools... -
Professor recommendation past deadline...What shall I do?
coffee_maniac replied to coffee_maniac's topic in Psychology Forum
I totally feel ya Stillalivetui. It will be alright. Just make sure always be polite to the reference writer. As an update, the all late recommendations have essentially been submitted. now finger crossed. hopefully those 7 schools people are not super pissed by my late recommendation arriving 2 days after the deadline... Any way, whether it works out or not is really out of my control.... Good luck to you as well. -

That is very comforting to know.... Thank you so much JoePianist! Best of luck on your applications! -
I am applying for counseling psychology PhD at 9 schools. One of my reference professor still hasn't submitted his online recommendations although yesterday (12-01-2015) was the deadline for 7 of the schools. Normally would graduate school have grace period for late arrival recommendations? I sent couple of following ups since a month ago to inform this professor of the deadline. He is in general late in grading our homework, late in my last recommendation letter for internship.... I am grateful and everything but this time, he still hasn't submitted my recommendations even after the deadline..... Anybody has similar experience on this? Does it mean my application won't be considered due to this late recommendation? Thanks...Feeling so bombed out...

I am applying for counseling Psych PhD now... I found that quite a few schools say that they can guarantee the funding (tuition remission + stipend) for the first couple of years, and later during the dissertation, it will be scholarship (which basically covers only a portion of the tuition, no stipend).... Is this normal for counseling pscyhology phd track? Are there any schools that covers the whole 5 years of Phd with full funding? Please kindly suggest. thanks!

Accepted to NYU Psych Masters…now what?
coffee_maniac replied to scate2014's topic in Psychology Forum
Secate2014, I like the way you approach. MA first and then PhD. My impression is that although your GPA is not quite competitive, but you really have good chunk of research experience. So, based on your background, I don't see why you shouldn't apply for phD directly. Based on your own unsettled interest, I think MA sounds better. Wait, first of all, are there any big difference between MA and PhD? I heard so many people going for a PhD and later on realize that it is not their cup of tea and switch to Masters. I also heard people initially getting Masters but later on realize that PhD is acutally ideal for them.... Does the division line have to be thus clear? Please feel free to give advice.... -

Question, so NYU master's for sure don't have full graduate assistantship? Are you sure? -

I also got accepted by NYU steinhardt. Still working on the funding..... The tuition is way too expensive for me to afford Good luck! -
I got admission and now I am contacting professors for assistantship. The professor that I am super interested in told me to contact her about RAship position in August. I am like, is it normal? Aren't we supposed to make a decision on april 15 th? I am really inclined to this school but what if the professor told me there is no funding in August? Then I have to pay for all the tuition..... Compared with this, another school at least gives me half scholarship.... What shall I do? Thank you for suggestions!

Just received the email. I got accepted by NYU MA counseling. Is it possible to get full funding there for MA? Any advice? Thanks!

BU and NYU Masters in counseling, any one?
coffee_maniac replied to coffee_maniac's topic in Psychology Forum
Oh, that is not That is not good news for me. Well, the professor contacted me on the other day, saying that there is chances of scholarship that covers 2/3 of tuition. I am hoping that getting a oncampus assitantship job would cover the rest some how. Is this practical by any chance? Steinhardt is still reveiwing upto now, as I called the department. -

Well, I got rejection letter from Boston College Clinical Psychology PhD from Department of Psychology this monday.... Grrrrrr -
I just received admission letter from BU master's in counseling couple of days ago. A professor I contacted before sent me the admission letter. Hurray! Now I need to figure out the financial issue for BU. Does BU counseling usually give full funding to master's student? Any advice? Also, I am still waiting for NYU counseling in masters and Doctor's from BU clinical psych..... Has anybody heard anything yet? NYU gives result thus late? For rejections so far, I have UMass Boston PhD in counseling psychology and Boston College PhD in psychology. For waiting list, I have Boston College Masters in counseling pshychology. Good luck everybody!

Yesterday, I received wait list from Boston COllege, master's program. It is One of my dream programs. Is waitlist for BC usually a kind rejection letter or there is still hope? Any thoughts?

Thank you for your feedback. I didn't really want to do research when I was in my undergrad in Psychology. I didn't even want to go to graduate school before. However, for the past 2 years after I graduated, I was working in after school program and now as a life coach. Gradually I realize that I am very interested in a Masters or PhD in counseling psychology. My goal is to open my own practice and write books to help people who have psychology challenges. So I am applying to some Master's and some PhD programs. She wasn't really mean to say this. I guess I wasn't quite understanding and got confused of how important the working experience is compared with research experience..... I am pretty sure I am not alone on this. How can a person with good working experience still be possible to get admitted in PhD programs with funding? Sigh....

I stopped by one of my professors office today. She told me that it is a waste of money to apply for doctoral program if I only have bachelor's degree in psych.... Is this true? Any recommendations of schools that normally consider students with bachelors degree for funded graduate study? My background is bachelor (GPA = 3.9) with 2 years of related counseling work. My goal is to go to graduate school with funding, as I cannot afford the tuition. Thank you all for your time and effort!
