OzzyOz Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Hi, I got admission offers from both Princeton NES and UCSD History for their PhD programs (Fall2014) with full financial support. As a non-US citizen I am considering pursuing an academic track in the US after finishing the program. What would your recommendations be? Which school does offer better opportunities? jeffleung1992 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I don't know anything about History, but I know that Princeton is very well known and well respected in the US. Of course, the thing that ends up mattering the most is the relationship you have with your PI. You should pick the school which has the best match with your POI; basically a person who is doing research in an area that you like, someone who has influence in the field, and can hence open doors for you. Congrats though, and best wishes!
starofdawn Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Hmm... UCSD is a great school, but Princeton is an ivy league. As jeffleung1992 said, your research interests and POI are the most important. After that, a great school name can open doors for you too.
