liszt85 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Could somebody suggest a few names of textbooks that I can use to read up basics about memory, attention, language performance. If you've taken Memory and Cognition courses, what textbooks did they use? Where can I read up about Latent Semantic Analysis?
socialpsych Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 My intro to learning & memory course used the book "Learning and Memory" by Gluck, Mercado, & Myers.
liszt85 Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 I found a book called "Gateway to Memory" (neural network modeling of the hippocampus and learning) by the same authors..will look around for "Learning and Memory". Thanks.
dirkduck Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I recently picked up "The Oxford Handbook of Memory," which has gotten very good reviews; it may be more specific (e.g. only memory) than you are looking for though.
liszt85 Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 So I've picked up the oxford handbook too. What books do statistics (Psych) courses normally use or are there any that you'd recommend?
socialpsych Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Tabachnik & Fidell, Using Multivariate Statistics is a very useful book to have around, especially for the sample APA style write-ups of different procedures.
irrealised Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Reisberg's Cognition: Exploring the Science of the Mind is a solid undergrad cognitive psychology text.
IOPsych83 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Pedhazur, E.J., & Schmelkin, L.P. (1991). Measurement, Designs, and Analysis: An Integrated Approach. (We used this in Advanced Methods I & II) Gorsuch, R. L. (1983). Factor analysis (2nd ed.). (Methods III) Raykov, T., & Marcoulides, G. A. (2000). A first course in structural equation modeling. (Methods III) I also agree on the Tabachnick & Fidell book. (Used in Methods III and very helpful for all methods courses) These are all texts that were standard in our program whether it be Human Factors, I/O, or Clinical
illinoisellie Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I use "statistics for psychology" by aron, aron and coups. Though its an introductory textbook, it really helps walk you through the spss analyses and be able to calculate the stats yourself!
liszt85 Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 "Foundations of Statistical Natural Language Processing" by Manning and Schutze "The Psychology of Language" by Whitney Does anyone have these in ebook format? There are sites like gigapedia.org from where we can download these for free but couldn't find these anywhere. I couldn't find them in my library either. These are books that my adviser suggested I read before the quarter begins.
