bellebruin Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Who else got accepted to SDSU's program? Let's celebrate!!! I would love to connect with those that have already gotten accepted and planning on attending SDSU's program this fall and discuss orientation, field work, etc. I didn't see a Facebook page for incoming class of 2014. Congrats to all those and good luck to those that are still waiting! Please message or PM me so we can connect!
layune Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Hi bellebruin, Congratulations!!! I also got accepted to SDSU! I had the hardest time deciding between SDSU, USC, and Michigan, but SDSU is the cheapest. Ha. Plus I was awarded the Title-IV stipend at SDSU, which pays for all my tuition! I got the same stipend at Michigan, but it doesn't go as far, because the price tag is so large. My financial aid packets helped me make my decision, so I will also be attending SDSU in the fall. I am going to be studying interpersonal practice with children and families, with my concentration being on child welfare, due to my stipend. I want to work for CWS after I graduate, so this fits perfectly. I know for my field work the director discussed with me that he will try to get me placed in a school my first year under a school social worker and for my second year I will be interning at CWS. What about you? I think it would be a great idea to connect and meet up with a group of people that are going to be attending this fall!
bellebruin Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 Congrats on SDSU and the other schools!! Well SDSU is affordable compared to a lot of other schools but their program is also pretty darn good too! My focus is in individuals and families and ultimately I would like to work with children and youth who has experienced trauma. I am not sure where I will be placed for the first year placement as I am still waiting for the field faculty to contact me. I think we should definitely get a group together and meet up before the program begins! Are you doing the 2 year full time program?
mpainter Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Hi again, I too was accepted and chose SDSU for fall 2014. I am planning to specialize in Medical or Geriatric Social work. I too am waiting to hear from my field faculty about interviews for first year placement. I definitely would like to meet with other MSWs, however I am not going to be back in SD until the end of July, or August.

I went to the IVAT convention last year and attended the seminars specific to that topic. I am doing the the 2 year full-time program as well. I think if we make a group to meet up, maybe it can be a week or two before classes start. Or actually I live in North County and will be around during summer, so I can probably meet up whenever, if we plan it on a day that works in everyone's schedule.
bellebruin Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Hi everyone, I hope all is well. I would love to plan a meet up some time in June or July. To incoming SDSU social worker grad students, can you send me a PM of your email addresses and we can start an email thread. I am assuming that at this point, most people have made their decisions on the schools they will be attending in the fall.
daisydukes Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Does anyone know if SDSU requires advanced standing students to take the qualifying exam? If so when?

I was wondering what the interview process was like and what types of questions they ask. Is it more situational based questions or facts about the laws in place? Any little bit will help! Thank you!!
