Can You Defer MFA Admissions?

Hi All,

Decided to accept an offer down south, but just found out that i'm pregnant. What are the chances they would let me defer? It is for an MFA in Creative Writing, and I think they only accepted 4 or 5 people this year.

Any advice?

You should check with the school. A lot of programs do not allow you to defer because of the nature of their programs (small, each candidate chosen with an eye toward how they would fit in with current students.)

It may be on the website... But even if it says they don't allow it, you might want to talk to faculty there anyway to see if it could be possible.

I'm supposed to talk to the Chair tomorrow, but I am nervous that he will most certainly say "No" for exactly the reasons you stated. : (
