TheRealMSol Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I'm a bit naive on this. Just wondering if anyone know which schools in the NY/NJ area (including CUNY and SUNY) have good or bad health insurance plans for full time students. Particularly interested in Buffalo State College, New Paltz, Hunter, and Brooklyn College. You can see my list of schools below. Any others there that you may have some insight on would be appreciated as well! Thanks!
GandalfTheGrey Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Basically, you just need to look at each school's plan and compare them to eachother and what you need. You can also look into health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (healthcare.gov). I did a quick google search of "Buffalo State college graduate health insurance" and found this fact sheet: https://consolidatedhealthplan.com/files/pdf/SUNYBuffaloStatefinalSBC.pdf The other schools you are applying to probably have similar fact sheets that you can use to compare plans. ASHA has some useful information on the basics of understanding health insurance here: http://www.asha.org/public/coverage/ FYI, one of my friends is a grad student at UMASS (not in speech though) and she is very impressed with their coverage. goingtobeslp13 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I could be wrong, but I think the CUNYs don't offer health insurance. I vaguely remember asking that a year ago when I was considering taking time off my prereqs for a job (meaning that I would be over 26 when I finished the program and in need of my own insurance). I'm not 100% sure though!
