Gradcafe Networking and Beyond

Networking goes along way in all fields especially in IR. So I've decided to extend my network base by starting here at the gradcafe forum. If you are interested in networking with me or others just post saying you want to be part of the gradcafe network and people can send each other private messages to get contact info preferably a Facebook friend request since that seems to be the best way these days. I'm going to Georgetown for the MSFS program and I'll be networking there, but my goal is to link up with people from all the other schools such as Korbel, Harvard, SAIS, SIPA, WSS, etc. It doesn't matter if you are MPP or IR, all are welcomed. I'll be in DC and would be willing to help out those that may end up in DC for work or an internship. You never know who you'll need on the other end and it is good to have people all over the place. I also think it is a good idea to network not only at the school you are going to, but also with those from other schools. I don't know...let me know your thoughts.

State the school you are attending and your field of study...and if you guys have any other ideas to make this better just say so. Come on guys lets get something going!

I'll be going to Gtown for the MSFS program and my concentration is International Relations and Security.

I think that's a great idea. I personally use Linked In for my professional networking and of course, like everyone else, Facebook. I'd be happy to get connected through either one. I'm going to SAIS and will be concentrating in Strat studies, though there may be a chance I may switch to Chinese studies or American Foreign Policy.

Actually, sorry. Let's do Linked In instead. I just sent you an invite from my account. I was just thinking about deleting alot of "friends" from FB, b/c of the annoying twittering-like messages "I just ate a pbj sandwich" that are taking up my newsfeed, so nothing personal! :D

Come on people lets keep on networking...so far there are only three of us and more are surely welcomed! Don't be shy...one contact could possibly open that door you really need opened. Over 180 views and only three of us. I know we can do better.

Ya...I think it might have been "alteregoista" who sent it to you. He/she sent me one.

"Alteregoista" you should Email and PM us with your contact info or at least your username. I tried sending you a reply through an email. Hopefully you received it.

LinkedIn networking sounds like a good idea - I'm in.

Going to Yale for an MA in European & Russian studies, focusing on international security and diplomatic history.

Keeping in touch/networking is a great idea. I don't have Linkedin but I can get it... do I just sign up or do I have to be invited? I'll be starting at SAIS this fall.

It's free. Just sign up. :)

I've been wanting to connect and network with MPP candidates and people studying domestic policy. Even though I'm an International Relations major with a focus on Security, I strongly believe that their is an overlap between the two fields. Like I've stated before, you never know what a contact can do, especially for those of us in the DC area. I'll start a new topic and redirect those domestic policy students here so we can broaden our network. I'll send you (Policy_applicant and Plate and invite).
