Guest Gnome Chomsky Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I took my last final last Wednesday, and all my final grades were in by Sunday, and it still doesn't show that I graduated on my transcript. I'm waiting to send my final transcripts to my grad program, and I'd like to maybe get a new job now that I have a degree. How long does this crap take? bubba and danieleWrites 1 1
fuzzylogician Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 This is a question either for your department's admin person or the registrar at your university. I can tell you that if you have your department's support you could have a final transcript within a day (at least, I was promised I would have my final transcript the day after I file my dissertation in July). It probably takes longer if your case is not a priority, especially since everyone is graduating at the same time.
Vene Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I think it took my alma mater a week or two to send out my offical diploma and transcripts. But don't let not having the offical document stop you from job hunting, you've completed the courses and have the grads, you have a bachelors degree now and it's perfectly legitimate to say such on a resume, although if you don't have one already you're going to have a hell of a time finding one you can work at for more than a couple weeks before you need to leave for grad school.I can't say I have experience with the bit about sending your final transcript to the graduate college, seeing as I applied after graduating, but I imagine they know full well it's going to take some time to get the official documents from the class of 2014.
TakeruK Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 For what it's worth, when I finished my BSc, my last final was in the last week of April, my degree was officially conferred around May 15 (you can download a letter from the registrar confirming that all requirements have been met if you need it for jobs etc.), the graduation event was around June, but it took until about June 15 for the "graduation" line to appear on my transcript.

danieleWrites Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 With my two BAs and my MA it took 4 to 6 weeks for the diploma to get mailed, but the day after grades were posted (usually the Tuesday after finals week), transcripts were available. That particular university had a degree checking department that everyone who applied to graduate had to pass through. Degree checking verified that all requirements for graduation had been met and nothing go accidentally skipped because someone assumed that creative writing filled the composition requirement (or something). No degrees were finalized until the degree requirements had been checked and the departments had no pull in making that process go faster. Diplomas were made in batch, so no actual diploma until all degrees had been checked. The degree awarded did not appear on the transcript until the degree had been checked. But that's one university.Check with the graduate school.
fuzzylogician Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Oh, my BA diploma took about 9 months to be issued. I finished my requirements in August and was officially awarded the degree in September. Commencement was in June of the following year, and I could pick the diploma up from the registrar's office after that, since I didn't attend the ceremony. They wouldn't mail it to me.* Point being, these things vary quite a bit, so you need ask. * And because of that, I don't have my BA diploma. Looking forward to my PhD diploma, though.
