crossoveranx Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I got rejected from all my schools except one, and also didn't receive significant funding for the one I got accepted to. All in all it will cost around $150,000 for my Ph.D. Should I wait a year and reapply to other schools in the hope that I get in or bite the bullet and incur the debt to get my doctorate. Really having a tough time deciding.
samiam Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 That's a massive amount of debt and could really cripple the choices you make for the rest of your life (e.g. whether you can ever buy a house, take time off to have kids etc). Sit down with a calculator and work out how much you will have to pay each month, compared to the average salary in your field.
GeoDUDE! Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 If you arent funded for a PhD chances are the department doesn't really care if you come. You are money to them, do not go.
fuzzylogician Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Personally, I would not incur that much debt for a PhD.
