ProfMoriarty
I'm not due to start my programme until October, but I was recently emailed a summer reading list, the contents of which seem fascinating and have made me more anxious to finish my contract and start preparing for what's to come! Funnily, the email said it's not mandatory to buy and read all the books, but I'm just so excited and so eager to learn that I've already downloaded the ones that were available on PDF, and purchased the ones that weren't (they were astonishingly expensive, even in Kindle format!) How have you guys been preparing? Have you, too, been assigned reading?
geographyrocks
I meant to prepare...but then I realized that I won't have a truly free summer possibly ever again. So I read articles every once in a while. My adviser gave me a paper that I need to do something with. He gave me the option of now or later. lol So I guess that's like an assignment except I'm not quite sure what to do with it. He basically said: Here's something I wrote. It's not great. Make it better. So I'm slowly going through and editing it along with writing out ideas for elaborating on his research. I feel like I should be doing more. Off topic: Your start date is October?!? Orientation at my school starts in 2 1/2 weeks! I think I'm a little jealous...lol music

I'm actually upset I haven't had a free summer precisely to do these kinds of things! Our terms are odd, being only 8-instense-weeks-long. Honestly, October cannot come soon enough. I want to relocate already!

I want to relocate already! Although I also haven't had a summer -- until now -- to catch up on reading, I put most of that aside a few weeks ago. With these major life changes about to take place, I really wanted to have some time to regain my sanity from all of the responsibilities of the last few years. I'd say take a break, personally...
