StenoLubr Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 So I did a research at a University during my sophomore year in college (just graduated). I asked the person for a reference letter when I applied to a job this summer. He sent it, but then I realized I never gave any feedback to him (I didn't get the job, but I forgot to tell him about it. although I did say thank you right after). I haven't talked to him since, and I need to ask him for a recommendation letter for december. I feel like he would be annoyed since I didn't follow up on him and I am asking for a recommendation letter again. Do they think this way? I was wondering what is the best way to approach him.
ssynny Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Honestly, it'll be fine. Of course they want to know if their students are succeeding, but they're also very busy people. You should casually start a conversation now about catching up, get the ball rolling. Tell him about the bad news and where you plan to go from there. Then in October (or whenever you were going to ask for the letters), email again and ask. But as long as you said thank you after he sent the rec, you'll definitely be fine .
