ec86 Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Study the basic math concepts and do more practice questions and tests. There's no other way about it, really.
socialcomm Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Ditto ec86. You might want to purchase a GRE prep book and you can also use the prep material the GRE sends once you sign up for the exam.
crabchicken Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 practice more, exp. in the part u r weak (algebra, probability, wtever)
Stories Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 If you have a friend that is very good with algebra and geometry, ask that person what he/she finds as useful methods to thinking about certain kinds of problems. Usually, figuring out an algebra or geometry problem is the way you frame the question.
socialpsych Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Don't just review basic math. Do that, but also practice using a test prep book.
glasses Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Don't just review basic math. Do that, but also practice using a test prep book. This. The GRE mostly gauges how well you can take the GRE.
t_ruth Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 This is the easiest section to improve quickly. Just practice, practice, practice. I really recommend: http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Math-Ref ... 498&sr=8-5 as a good solid math refresher.
a piece of bread Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 maybe because of us education system, quantitive part of gre seems to be easy for int applicants like me. i got a 800 in this section. if you are familiar with basic math concepts, i would recommend you just to practice more. i do not know your background of mathematics. i was an economics major with a minor intl relations (not focused on math). i believe that this is quite easier than verbal part and you can easily get a high score in it!
nandelle Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Do a million practice problems. Worked for me! I taught SAT prep courses for math - the math is about the same level. So after 3 months of working sat math problems over and over and over (and I got good at doign them in my head), I got an 800 on the GRE math.
socialcomm Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 The quant section is painful for me too. The previous posters gave good advice. Practice, practice, and practice, and make sure you practice the GRE way too. Getting a workbook specific to the GRE is a great idea.
