B. Blumenstrauss Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 http://psychology.unl.edu/psichi/Graduate_School_Application_Kisses_of_Death.pdf One applicant admitted to feeling “a thrill of excitement every time he/she steps into a morgue.” Another wrote “a 10-page narrative of herself as Dorothy on the yellow-brick road to graduate school.” A third indicated that heor she “had performed (acted?) in pornographic movies, which was not well received by the admissions department in consideration for acceptance into graduate school.” My application wasn't that bad after all!
poliorkein Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 http://psychology.unl.edu/psichi/Graduate_School_Application_Kisses_of_Death.pdf Well, this will be the last time I ask my travel agent for a letter of recommendation... B. Blumenstrauss 1
poliorkein Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Holy flurry of results page activity, Batman! Congratulations to the Princeton, Yale, NYU and Columbia admits

birchleaf Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Man did it feel good to change my signature on here. Absolutely psyched (one of my dream programs!) though my brain isn't processing anything at the moment! B. Blumenstrauss and ἠφανισμένος 2

RedViper Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Congratulations Birchleaf!!! I'll just keep waiting. It is nice to see people posting, and knowing which schools I didn't get into, even if the schools themselves haven't given me notice. And Brown looks set to release admissions soon...
birchleaf Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Thank you everyone I am buzzing with happiness! I will note that nothing has been changed on ApplyWeb so if there's anyone who has been nervously checking the websites (as I have!) I don't think there will be much to be found there.
tristansmells Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 My name's actually Peter Tristan smells. The results feed suggests Brown has been releasing all their results over the last week.

tristansmells Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Search Brown, all the other courses are being released
birchleaf Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Perhaps, but all departments do their own thing as far as I know. It is my understanding that at the grad level each department of a university operates on its own schedule.
poliorkein Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Perhaps, but all departments do their own thing as far as I know. It is my understanding that at the grad level each department of a university operates on its own schedule. Yeah, that's also the impression i'm under (that said, holy cow at the slaughterhouse happening in History if one searches under Brown). I will say, perhaps unwisely, that given the fact that Brown was one of the schools with the earliest deadlines, I'm a bit puzzled as to why they're lagging behind with notifications.
B. Blumenstrauss Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 By the way, I really do not understand why Classics at Brown extended their deadline from December 1 to January 1 (received an email with this notice). Few applications? At Brown?
poliorkein Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) Oh wow, I did not see that nor did I ever find out about that until just now. I just remember being caught slightly offguard by the Stanford and Brown deadlines (or at least the original Brown deadline) since theirs were roughly 2 weeks before a pile of departments whose deadlines were on the Dec. 15th. Edit: Ah, just noticed your original post on that was from January 21st, I didn't start lurking here until I got my first acceptance at the end of January hence why I missed it. My applications for Stanford and Brown were insane: GRE got late, SoP was too long, official transcript should be mailed, I was afraid of touching the wrong button all the time, etc. The answer to one of my "insanity emails" (Dear Sir or Madam I am really sorry but the scores/but ETS/but my university/1007 words!!) was the extension of Brown's deadline. And I still wonder why they did it.
Kallikratidas Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Has anyone heard anything from Harvard? I would imagine they would want to get their results out soon.
RedViper Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Has anyone heard anything from Harvard? I would imagine they would want to get their results out soon. As anonumous pointed out, Harvard has already conducted their interviews and told him that decisions will come out at the end of the month. I expect to receive my rejection letter either by email or postal service, or both, by the first or second week of March. Sending out the rejection notices are the last thing they do, as part of the application process. I actually applied to Harvard in a previous year, I remember receiving the rejection letter by postal service some time in early March. I believe Yale and UPenn will follow the pattern I mentioned above. I haven't heard anything from Brown's Classics department. Scipio told us that he knew someone who got an offer for their ancient history program, who applied through the Classics department. I don't know what that means for the applicants to the Classics graduate Program. Anyone here have any leads or inklings on Brown's Classics graduate program for this application year?

That is all just my conjecture of course. If anyone out there has any alternate theories, I 'd be glad to hear them! After all, as academics we should always welcome peer-reviews.

Sounds to me like your conjecturing isn't implausible. Edited February 21, 2015 by AischylosDerBoss
Drewzaith Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Congrats to the Bryn Mawr admits. I love that program. Are you thinking about accepting or waiting for other offers?

Penn interviewed and accepted students a couple of weeks ago in Classical Studies and Ancient History (and I think AAMW as well?), though there could still be a waitlist!

Many thanks. While I do try to follow the "no news is good news"-rule, I'll start to mentally prepare for crossing that one off the list. Waiting sucks.
