Appropriate SOP mention?

Hey all,

 

Would it be appropriate to mention a current grad student in my SOP?  A POI put me in touch with his current grad student.  Turns out, said student's research interests mesh with mine and she just received a fellowship from a new foundation in our (very specialized) field. I have had my eyes on this fellowship for nearly a year now.

 

Basically, these are the things that I want to be doing in grad school.  In my SOP I would mention it in the context of my being excited with the direction the program is sending their students in.

I would mention her.  I would also mention that the POI connected the two of you.
