jns88 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I applied to SPEA for Fall 2015. Over a month ago, I recieved an email that my application was complete and forwarded to the admissions committee. The email said admission decisions generally take 2-3 weeks, but I haven't heard anything since. Has anyone else applied and heard anything? I'm just curious because I hate waiting haha.
jns88 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 Never mind! I just recieved my acceptance letter today via email. Good luck to anyone else who applied! ReinventOneself 1
ReinventOneself Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Never mind! I just recieved my acceptance letter today via email. Good luck to anyone else who applied! Congratulations! You are blessed to be notified early of your decision. Most of us will be waiting on pins and needles until mid-March....
Wozezeka Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 My last letters of recommendation were submitted yesterday (a great xmas gift!) so I can only wait now. I really hope to hear back from SPEA. They are tied for top choice with UT. The only advantage that UT has is that it's in Austin, where I currently live and hope to stay. Where did you hear that it takes 2-3 weeks? That seems very quick
jns88 Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 SPEA sent me an email when I completed my application saying the average time was 2-3 weeks. Good luck!
Wozezeka Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Wow. That's why I hadn't heard back from SPEA. I sent an email to check in on things and they said my transcript hadn't arrived! I just overnighted them. I know the deadline isn't until Feb 2nd but I thought all my apps were wrapped up on Christmas Day! I'm glad I emailed them to check in. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed now! But damn, I was horrified to realize my app wasn't complete!
divertan Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Found out through a Gradcafe thread a few weeks ago that SPEA had extended its deadline for international applicants to Feb 1, 2015, and somehow managed to get my act together and apply for the MPA/MSES programme! Tho I'm not expecting a decision before March, given that my application was finally completed just a few days ago.. Does anyone know the stats on the number of SPEA (or specifically MPA/MSES) applicants per year, or even when we are likely to hear back from UIB..? Best of luck to you all!
jns88 Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 The SPEA website provides some of that information. In the application FAQs, it states "SPEA received over 500 applications for Fall 2014 admission. Our incoming Fall 2014 class is comprised of 185 students across our MPA, MSES, and dual MPA-MSES programs." And if you follow this link (http://www.indiana.edu/~spea/prospective_students/masters/prospective_students/student_body_profile/index.shtml), it gives student demographics including the number of MPA/MSES students. I was accepted into the MPA/MSES program and am 95% sure I will be attending in the fall. I'm just waiting for funding information right now. I am a domestic applicant and recieved my accepting about 6 weeks after my application was completed. Hope this info helps! And good luck!
Wozezeka Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Got an email about experience day but haven't been admitted yet.
2ndAC Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Same! I was semi-confused by that email invite.
Sjn092 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I received that somewhat odd email as well... Not sure how much to read into it though, if at all.
Mumble Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I got the same email, what does your application status say?
Sjn092 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 My application status hasn't changed (that field is left blank on my checklist). I think the last thing I heard from them was that my application was complete, which was something like a week ago. I'm going to just guess, in the name of staying level headed, that everyone that applied got that email, and the odd phrasing was just incidental.
2ndAC Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 The same goes for me. It's been less than 2 weeks so you are probably correct in saying they were just letting everyone know about the experience day. I've gotten emails like that from other schools but usually as part of a thank you for applying email.
jns88 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) If anyone is looking for a potential roommate in Bloomington IN next fall, go ahead and send me a PM. I am female and 24 years old. I would like to save some money by rooming with someone else. Edited February 15, 2015 by jns88
Sjn092 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Just got some good news in my inbox. Funding decisions in mid-March!
Wozezeka Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Just accepted today!!!! Now I just need to wait to hear about funding. I'm not making a decision yet but I really like the program at SPEA.
2ndAC Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Same! Maybe it meant something since we all got accepted! Congrats everyone!
divertan Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Congratulations Sjn092, Wozezeka and 2ndAC, what great news!! Decided to go through my application checklist yesterday, since I had literally applied last minute, and found that one of my three recommenders hasn't sent in his letter yet!! Have followed up with him, as well as SPEA, fingers crossed!! Same! Maybe it meant something since we all got accepted! Congrats everyone! 2ndAC, I really really hope you're right about that email meaning something, cos I'd gotten one too...and the programme at SPEA is great!! Waiting now, with bated breath.
Sjn092 Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) Anyone else get a call from current SPEA students today or attend yesterday's online Q&A? I am still having a hard time believing just how helpful and positive they have been thus far. For me, a funding package of some sort might just be enough to make this decision easy. I am having trouble finding a serious fault with their program... Edited February 28, 2015 by Sjn092

Wozezeka Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Got the call. If it's affordable enough either through scholarship or a job, this will be where I go!
jns88 Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 For admitted applicants: Check your email! I received a merit aid offer today!
Sjn092 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Shoot, no word yet. I suppose If I dont hear anything today I'll wait a couple days and then give them a call on Monday...
