IHEID (Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva) Fall 2015

I was just accepted today, MA Development Studies, and received a full scholarship and generous stipend. Was pretty set on going to a US program but this makes the decision much more difficult since I could go here basically for free versus lots of student loans staying in the US....hmm.

Any other Americans considering the program? I don't have European citizenship so I'm a little worried about coming back to the US where there isn't much of an alumni network and finding jobs afterwards. Have also gotten the sense the degree is more theoretical than some American graduate programs. Does anyone know if the Institute is going to organize alumni/admitted student events in other cities?

Anyway, those of you that were waiting can probably check for your scholarship decision now!

I was accepted for International Law, with no scholarship. I have to find other sources of funding, otherwise I can't maintain myself there.

Hey, congrats on getting accepted and the scholarship! You're right, there is a difference between European and US schools: most of that comes from the fact that they are usually much more anti-fundationalist than US schools, which tend to be a lot more positivist in their approach. I hope that makes sense? So yes, you'd probably come out with more 'hard' skills from a US school. Although as far as European schools go, IHEID is pretty good with doing qualitative and quantitative courses. Also, the location is hard to beat (unless you want to study in NYC or Washington or course). But European schools are also much less proactive with helping their students find internships and work. So you'd probably have to build your own network if you were to return home to the US after your degree. For me personally, being debt-free would always trump anything else, but that's a personal decision. :) I hope my comments could at least be a little bit helpful. Good luck deciding, sounds like you have several great options!

I really hope you can find funding! I first applied to IHEID a couple of years ago and was accepted but couldn't go without a scholarship. So I spent some time saving and am now going without having applied for a scholarship for this year. So even if you can't go now it doesn't have to be the end of your IHEID career. :) All the best!

Hello, I am from Korea. Last week, I got accepted from Master in Development Studies.

It's the first time to study abroad, so the expectation for studying in Geneva gives me the excitement as well as a little worries :)

Hey guys, just was accepted to the MA program in international affairs. I just paid my deposit, so I'm attending. Anyone else in the MIA program here?

I got accepted to MDev last week too, it was definitely the most draining waiting process of my life, as I applied already on the first round and had to wait until now. So happy though :) I got no funding either, but determined to go anyway and just get loans etc if I fail to get any other scholarships. Thank you for creating the fb group Minzer, just joined that too.

Hi, Sarliman. Cangratulations on your acceptance. I am also admitted to the Master Programme in International Law (for the second time). I was shortlisted for a scholarship as well, but I'm not sure that I'll get one. Unfortunately, I am not able to attend the programme without financial assistance.

So, I'll join the group you are going to create, if I get one.)
