StatsG0d Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I just finished my application to Rutgers and realized that, although the app deadline is 1/15, the financial aid deadline was 12/1. Has anyone missed the deadline and still received aid? Furthermore, does this refer to just fellowships or also TA-ships? Thanks in advance!
Stat Assistant Professor Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 If you applied to their PhD program, I'd assume that they would give you financial support (or at least waitlist you for it) if they accepted you.
StatsG0d Posted December 25, 2014 Author Posted December 25, 2014 That's reassuring. Thanks for the response.
wine in coffee cups Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Even if you hadn't missed the financial aid deadline, it sounds like the funding situation at Rutgers is dicey, as a few applicants from recent years have mentioned in the results database. Obviously these are not official statements, but I think comments like "Rutgers is in financial disarray right now and I believe they have almost no funding" from the previous application season are a little scary. Also, if you look at their current PhD students, you see that only one listed as starting Fall 2014 (appointed as a TA) and two in Fall 2013 (both TA). I see they have start dates missing for a few students, but to me this suggests they haven't been able fund more than a couple of new PhD students in recent years. Good luck dude, something will work out!
StatsG0d Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Ouch. Yeah I kind of heard that they were a little under water. I didn't realize it was that bad. Thanks a lot for the good wishes.
