KW58D Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Are there any other Human Factors applicants our there? I applied to 3 HF programs this cycle. University of Central Florida Catholic University of America University of South Dakota I know it's a smaller field, but to me it's a really exciting direction to go with psychology. Just want to see if there is anyone else on here wrapping up their applications, or playing the waiting game at this point.
KW58D Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Wow, chirp chirp, nothing. Well those applicants are out there somewhere.
TXInstrument11 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Just out of curiosity, which HF lab at UCF are you interested in? I am an RA in Dr. Hancock's lab, MIT2.
KW58D Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 TXInstrument11 - Funny you should ask, I actually indicated his lab as one of my top choices based on my military aviation experience and intended career path. I think overall I mentioned 3 potential POI's. So you're working in that lab, but have interests elsewhere? Ironically, I was working in a lab that was rather different than the direction I was trying to go as well. It's interesting how things work out.
zonuleofZinn Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I, too, applied to UCF--Hopefully we will start hearing something soon! Will be monitoring the forums closely, in the meantime. (Sorry if you checked this thread excited for new information!)
Impatiently Waiting Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I applied to NC State's Human Factors program. Haven't heard anything yet. Fingers crossed for all of you!
KW58D Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 Good luck to you as well. Hopefully we all get some good news soon.
bricew Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Anybody heard from University of Washington yet?
BuzzinAround Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 To the poster who got an invitation to Grad Student Visit Day at Wright State: do you know if the visit day is just for HF or does it also include I/O applicants?
KW58D Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 It's been radio silence the whole way with the HF programs. I'm hoping we get some notice soon.
BuzzinAround Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 If anyone applied to Georgia Tech's engineering psychology program (their equivalent of HF), let me know! It's my alma mater, and I'm pretty familiar with the department as a whole.
zonuleofZinn Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Contacted the AEHF program director at UCF about what stage of the application review process they are at. "We are still in the process of selecting students. We hope to complete this task by next week." Edited March 5, 2015 by zonuleofZinn
KW58D Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Thanks for the heads up! I was debating calling them today.
zonuleofZinn Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 UCF has accepted 7 students for the first round, and they are waiting for their responses before making final decisions.
KW58D Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Thanks! Have they told anyone they are on a wait-list or anything?
zonuleofZinn Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I'm not sure. His use of the words "first round" led me to believe they may not have had that many applicants, and that after the first 7 respond, their may be another "round" of review. I'm speculating, of course.
KW58D Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Ok, so I emailed and asked if I was wait-listed, but also was told the same thing. I guess it isn't bad news as he told someone else directly that they are not being considered. Just some ambiguity involved.
KW58D Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Still no word from UCF. I did get a nearly fully funded offer elsewhere, but I'm hanging out to see what UCF has to say. I saw that last year they made an offer on April 17th!!!! That's after the cutoff date. I would hope that most people had already taken an offer by that time. Anyone who hadn't should have either had insider info of the offer pending or maybe was way down the list for most schools. I actually know a guy who was picked up by a school after the deadline for an I/O program because all of their selection and waitlist applicants had taken offers at other places. This guy was well down the list, but got picked up because he was available. It is at a nearly top tier program too!
zonuleofZinn Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Last I heard (March 18), 5 of their 7 offers had accepted--not trying to be discouraging, just informative. Pretty cool story about the guy who got into an I/O program off the waitlist. I had always thought that getting in off the waitlist was an almost mythical feat. I was waitlisted at a top-tier program as well; maybe I should have held out! Oh, well . . . Hope things work out well for everyone!
KW58D Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 I think it is informative. Better to be realistic rather than be day dreaming thinking you have a chance when you really don't.
KW58D Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 I called the program admin today at UCF and they informed me that of the 7 offers only one person had accepted, so not sure why there is conflicting information. I did get an offer to USD, but there is no funding info finalized as of yet.
zonuleofZinn Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Hmm. . . that is an interesting discrepancy. Perhaps the person I contacted was misinformed a the time, or perhaps they told me that instead of an outright, "Sorry, you've been rejected." On the results search page, it looks like someone got an offer from UCF on Mar. 25 and turned it down (pretty good funding offer too, apparently--19k + tuition). Congrats on the USD acceptance!
