Well guys and gals, I took a funded Ph.D offer at USD in Human Factos and released all my other offers. In the end, HF was where my heart really was. Probably won't see me around these parts too much anymore. Good luck to everyone that is waiting, got in places, or are applying next year. Very thankful to never do this again. To address something brought up earlier, be polite and respectful at all times. While Faculty and current students don't forget applicants that acted unprofessionally, the same goes the other direction. You never know where someone might end up, or where their career may take them. That person you had under your thumb back in the day might be the person making a decision on your life in the future. Follow the golden rule.

I wouldn't put much stock in the personal stats and program rankings. I see too many times people get rejections from their low and mid tier yet get accepted to their #1 choice. Perhaps the ADCOM's realize you'll get better offers, or maybe they like how you worded your SOP, or they know someone you know. I've seen some strange things occur during admissions cycles. It's confusing when a person with excellent stats gets shut out, but it DOES happen.

Released a Roosevelt University offer, good luck wait-listers! The faculty there seem great to work with and it was by far the best partial funding offer I had received. Surprising from a program that is so new, but they are heading in the right direction fast.

This is a tough call, you might be on a wait-list and could suddenly get pulled off it, especially when most people have already committed to other schools. Do NOT jeopardize a valid offer for this hope/chance though.

Setite, Again I have to agree with you. I'm still waiting on 2 schools and I'm getting to the point of just taking an offer I already have and cutting them loose before hearing anything. I'm tired of contacting them to get no answer at all. If I had any idea it would be like this I never would have wasted the time and money on the apps. I do have a friend who was picked up off the wait-list on the 15th last year at a decently ranked program. He was pretty far down the list, but everyone else had taken offers so he got in. So really this approach of not communicating your position on the WL can actually serve to backfire for the school. This whole process has made me somewhat bitter. I'm glad to not be going through this again. Additionally I am glad that I avoided clinical despite getting acceptances. I can't imagine running through the match for internship, what a nightmare.

Anyone have any updates for UCF?

I wouldn't buy in STL. If you can turn a profit with your current one then maybe that's a good option. You may find you don't have the time to reno the way you want, and unless you are planning to stay longer it could really bite you in the end. I have a couple homes in various places because somewhere down the line I thought it would be a great financial investment, with where the market is I'll be happy to break even some day.

TheMercySeat- That is crazy! I'm very interested to look at these stats if your willing to PM me the school details. I just don't know how they can continue operating with their current model.

I called the program admin today at UCF and they informed me that of the 7 offers only one person had accepted, so not sure why there is conflicting information. I did get an offer to USD, but there is no funding info finalized as of yet.

Turned down Claremont and SPU. Good luck to anyone on the wait-lists.

I applied to Ph.D programs. I have an M.A. in Org. psych and took a few additional UG psych. courses like you mentioned.

Agree, take those courses get some research time, and do well on the GRE. You'll get an abundance of offers I'm sure. Mind you my undergrad was in Aeronautics.

For what it's worth, I was accepted to a few schools with average GRE's this year, however I was rejected from more schools than I received acceptances and the common theme was due to my average GRE score. If I were applying again next year I would take a GRE course and retest. The study material I used didn't match up too well to what was on the GRE, so I think the course might be better plus I think they guarantee a certain point increase otherwise it is free. Point being: A high GRE won't get you in to a school, but not having a high one can certainly keep you out. At least in my anecdotal experience.

I think it is informative. Better to be realistic rather than be day dreaming thinking you have a chance when you really don't.

Still no word from UCF. I did get a nearly fully funded offer elsewhere, but I'm hanging out to see what UCF has to say. I saw that last year they made an offer on April 17th!!!! That's after the cutoff date. I would hope that most people had already taken an offer by that time. Anyone who hadn't should have either had insider info of the offer pending or maybe was way down the list for most schools. I actually know a guy who was picked up by a school after the deadline for an I/O program because all of their selection and waitlist applicants had taken offers at other places. This guy was well down the list, but got picked up because he was available. It is at a nearly top tier program too!

Setite- Can't agree more! Just tell me if I'm out or if their is a reasonable chance, so I can sit tight or move on.

Yeah, it is a frustrating process for everyone. I received 4 offers as well, but have let go of 2. I will likely let go of the 3rd tomorrow. I am still waiting to hear from 2 programs though that are as strong or stronger than my current best offer depending on the funding offered.

Anyone have any insider info for DePaul? I can't get a straight answer about the wait-list. You can PM me if you don't want to post, it's one of my last schools I'm waiting to hear from.

I believe that one of the faculty members left Auburn (possibly the program chair, don't quote me) and instead of staying with the school, a bunch of the students elected to leave as well. I don't have any details though, so I can't really shed any light.

Ok, so I emailed and asked if I was wait-listed, but also was told the same thing. I guess it isn't bad news as he told someone else directly that they are not being considered. Just some ambiguity involved.

Did anyone get a wait-list notification from DePaul? I called and asked about it but received an ambiguous answer.

Some documentation "went missing." They were sent in along with all other documents, so if they received one page they received them all. It's upsetting that after verifying completeness numerous times, I get an email rejection stating incomplete packet as the reason.

Cautionary Tale: This applies to any who applied to Auburn or are applying to Auburn in the future. I verified with the program coordinator that my packet was complete far before the deadline. In the end I was rejected due to an incomplete packet (all documents were submitted on time, it was lost somewhere during processing I'm guessing). It's really frustrating to spend the money and time applying just to find out that your packet never even received a fair review because of a lack of due diligence and competence. It is further insulting to receive an email from someone at the school making accusations that you failed to complete your packet after the fact (despite the department verifying your packet was complete multiple times). Just a heads up to those considering applying...
