phdreally Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Those who got in - what area/specialization have you applied?
morph Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 ^ seconded. Anyone has a specialization in AI/Robotics? Just curious about who beat me LOL
RP15 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I applied to Materials and Devices, haven't gotten an email
yoconman Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Applied Physics and Devices. Did anyone have interviews beforehand?
gmh Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 So much for my day dream. Congratulations for you who got admits
thissiteispoison Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I had an interview, but I haven't heard anything which is probably bad news right now. Is anyone else in PL?
cicada2014 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Same. Had interview, no news. Looks like a reject. (Wasn't expecting MIT but the interview got my hopes up falsely...) heilaw 1
maleen Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) Hi everyone, Had a short chat with two of the professors last week. ( questions were very generic - why do you want to do a PhD? and like, not much about potential projects) Just heard that I'm accepted. Super excited. Anyone knows about the visit days (6-7 March)? Do they fly international students over? Thanks Edited February 4, 2015 by maleen
jarlaks Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Haven't gotten any accept/reject emails yet, and there is nothing on the website. Anybody knows if this means reject? Or EECS is still sending out the decisions?
heilaw Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Haven't gotten any accept/reject emails yet, and there is nothing on the website. Anybody knows if this means reject? Or EECS is still sending out the decisions? In previous years, the result search showed that some guys did receive acceptance letters 1 week after the first wave of admission letters.
nllptr Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 You need to take the results search with a grain of salt though. The sample size of people posting there is relatively small and people also post unreliable data (e.g. they forget to set the date correctly, they assume that they've been "rejected" before any actual notices). Plus, it's completely possible to post bogus results.

nanoE Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I agree with "heilaw" .. it is better to assume the worst .. so if it does happen then we won't be disappointed. And if we do get in at the end, then that would be a whole different level of elation! hehe ..
mavi Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I can see there are 8 accepted ones!Congrats. Still waiting with patience but a little bit nervous! Best of luck to everyone.
Snoq Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Has anyone been rejected? And do you know why they send all the rejection together at a later date? Do we still have a chance?
afrojack4 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I don't think MIT will notify rejected applicants through email. And it ll mostly be toward the end of Feb. Guessing all their admits have been sent out
phdreally Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 @snoq - I would consider the rest of us to be rejected. If not, it is a very very small chance (not worth keeping hopes). I have assumed a reject.
mavi Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Let's wait for next week with hope, this week can be a little bit early to assume a reject.. thissiteispoison 1
thissiteispoison Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I prefer to never assume a reject until I'm outright rejected. I'll deal with the heartbreak later if I have to. So mavi, here's some solidarity on optimism

thissiteispoison Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Given that you've had an interview, have you tried reaching out to your interviewer to see if they are done making decsions? I think that's what I'll do. I don't feel like I'm close enough with him to do that. I did that with a professor at UW, but only because we'd been chatting for a while. If I saw him on the street I'd be like "hey, what's up?" and we'd catch up and it wouldn't be awkward. I don't feel comfortable asking about the status of applications to anyone with whom I'm not that close. Just too awkward, and potentially irritating. I don't want to get on his bad side I'm pretty sure this is completely out of my control now, and let's face it, MIT knows that everyone wants to go to MIT, so there's no point in trying to convince someone you really want to go to MIT. I wish I hadn't been so insanely nervous during my interview, but I think at this point I'll just wait it out. I don't plan on making decisions until I have all of my acceptances anyways. SDxx Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 What about admissions for students with B.S. degree only? Is admission selection for these students different?
controlc Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Those who got in - what area/specialization have you applied? I applied for AI and was accepted last week (the 4th). Also, I should mention that I did not have an interview before I heard back, but my POI did email me right after I received the acceptance letter. Good luck to everyone!
