RA92 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I appiled for the masters in nutrition and dietetics - clinical nutrition at NYU. I am a Canadian student and have an overall gpa of 3.49 and GRE scores are not required. Should I bother applying for a scholarship with my low gpa? What is the average criteria?
geographyrocks Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 As long as you meet the requirements, you should apply!
rising_star Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Definitely apply. What have you got to use?
TakeruK Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I agree with geographyrocks -- if you meet the minimum requirements, you should apply. If you do not, then it depends on how much work is required for the scholarship. For example, if the application requires letters of recommendation from professors, then I think it is inappropriate to ask them to write you a letter for the scholarship that you do not meet the minimum requirements for. The only exception is if you believe that the award committee will make an exception for you for one reason or another.
RA92 Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Thank you for you replies! The minimum requirement for the program is an overall gpa of 3.00 so I know im safe in this regards. There isnt any extra requirememt for the scholarship, i just need to write a two page essay. Is this a norm? Ive never applied to scholarships before so im not aware of the standard requirements.
geographyrocks Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Scholarships generally list the academic requirements and require some sort of statement. So yes, this is all very normal. Just make sure that you make a good argument in your essay as to why you should receive the scholarship.
