frez83 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I know the question is normal or common but I just wonder why they don't just look at application stats or something. the fact that it's part of the interview makes it seem like it could affect the outcome of your interview. Trust me, it's far more casual than you are assuming and has no impact on the outcome of your interview.
technotronic Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Anyone have any thoughts on good questions to ask about the school at the end of the interview?
tdevo412 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I asked my interviewer -- "What makes ___ stand out from other MFA programs? What do you enjoy most about the community here? " Since I have a medical history that messed up my grades so If they didn't ask me anything about it I had the question " Is there anything on my application you'd like some further clarification about? " BTW My SVA interview was wonderful! Fingers Crossed! Cool, good luck with SVA. Message me if you have any questions about NYU or their program. I can't seem to find anything regarding their interview process. Is it a panel or one on one? Any information helps!

It will be a panel of people, probably about 4. They will all be faculty in the interview itself, but the first year students will be talking to you before your interview and show you the building and their studios. A couple of second year students may be around too, but it will pretty much be first years because they will be the people you will be working with if you're accepted. The interview itself will be pretty laid back, they will have your work projected on a screen and will ask you questions about the work and your process, but mostly they will be gauging you on how you would "vibe" with the program. I mean this personality wise as much as work wise. It's a small program and everyone is around each other all day every day, so who you are is as important than what you make.
jl10 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I received an interview request from Hunter tonight. Does anyone know what the process will be like or what questions I should be prepared for?
Derpderpderp Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Anyone going to the saic open-studio performance event (not sure if this is the proper title) tomorrow?
Madhini Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I too received an invite for an interview for Hunter for their Studio art program. Anyone with any previous experience? It's my first one and I am a stutterer since childhood so this is a challenge for me!

Milkyways Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Today I had my Cornell interview and it was quite odd. First, I got an email confirming a skype interview , and 15 minutes after the time we had agreed on I had not received a call. I sent an email and apparently there had been a confusion (they were waiting for me to go in person!!!) After that, the interview started with everybody introducing themselves. It was quite a surprise to see that there were 4 members of the faculty, but also 4 mfa students. Is that usual?? They were very nice, but I can't deny this was unexpected and made me even more nervous. I had to present my work in 20 minutes and then we would have 20 minutes for questions. I had prepared a portfolio and I felt I kind of over prepared the presentation, I felt I was talking way too much time and going into deep details, and then...I started seeing people walk away in the middle of the interview...that was terrifying (( They didn't even say goodbye as they left Maybe it's better to keep it short and to the point. Well...we will see. I really want to get into this program.
hello_lauren Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Just had my SAIC interview, and trainwreck is the only appropriate word to describe it. It was a Skype interview, and my connection here in Scotland is so bad that the call dropped every 2-3minutes, and would take an extra minute or two to come back, so it was this really bad stopping/starting thing where I never got to complete a thought or fully answer a question. They were only able to ask a bit about my work, and it was just such a nightmare. I'm so bummed out- I feel like I could have done really well if technology had been functional. I will not be surprised when the rejection letter comes.
ouchfinger Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) My SAIC interview is coming up in 2 hours... nerve racking Edited February 28, 2015 by ouchfinger
blondertongue Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 had mine and felt amazing about it. the faculty is rad, the grads are really thoughtful and supportive. AND (was not expecting this part) I really enjoyed a lot of the other applicants. Talking about our influences and why we're interested-- it was really great all around.

They asked me to repeat myself several times because of technical problems with their computer. I don't think I did too well so I won't be surprised to get a rejection letter Edited February 28, 2015 by ouchfinger
