kellyfussman Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) Hello, ladies and gents! I will be applying to Vanderbilt this coming fall and, if accepted, will start the program in Fall 2016. I know that everyone brings different experiences to the table, but I just want to get an idea of what kind of stats are being accepted or even waitlisted for this current application cycle. If you were accepted in previous years, I'd still love to hear from you! mimblewimble Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Hi! Have you checked out the results page yet? Here's a link to the results search for "speech* vanderbilt": http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=speech*+vanderbilt You can hover over the red diamonds to see people's stats. If you already knew this, sorry! If you didn't, hope it helps! kellyfussman 1
mimblewimble Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Anytime! Yeah, it's a really great tool. I also use it to see the general timeline of acceptances for schools. Just don't get too attached, or you'll probably get a fair amount of anxiety from it Sounds like you are way ahead of the game which is awesome! DeWi and kellyfussman 2
laurenbslp Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I know one person posted a rejection on the results page, but has anyone else heard from Vanderbilt today?
pmarie Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 No! And doesn't it seem weird that someone would hear about a rejection before anyone would start posting acceptances? Guh, bleh. At least we made it to March, guys!
laurenbslp Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Yeah! I am just surprised someone heard this early. From looking at last years info, it looks like they started to hear around March 8. So this seems a little early, but it is possible!
Saila09 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Hi everyone, I just got accepted to Vanderbilt SLP this morning! Tons of acceptances were posted on the results so that's probably the best place to check stats. I've posted by stats before, but honestly I wouldn't get too hung up on them. OP - looks like you have tons of extracurriculars and a perfect GPA. Nice job! Do you have any research experience? Best of luck to everyone. SpeechdudeBK 1
dc2bslp Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I just got in, too! Stats below. I'm out of field, so no SLP extracurriculars but I do have research experience (including a neuro thesis) and internships working with children with developmental disabilities. Be sure to personalize your SOP for each school according to their unique programs and resources, and to be clear about your future goals and a clinician, researcher, etc. Good luck and let me know if you hve any questions!
susanofmonaco Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Hi, everyone! I found out today that I was accepted by Vanderbilt. Unbelievable! Can't wait for the financial offers to come out soon. Congratulations to everyone!
snk8 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Hey everyone! I was placed on the waitlist. Does anyone know how many they place on the waitlist or the likelihood of being chosen off the list? I'm not really counting on it, I was accepted other places, but I'm just curious!
dc2bslp Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hi all! Has anyone spoken to admissions about when funding offers will come out? I tried to call today and got put on hold haha.
susanofmonaco Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Hey, there! I still haven't received any financial aid mail from Vanderbilt. I suppose they'll send a letter either way, though I could be wrong.
Saila09 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Found out I was an alternate for funding at Vanderbilt. Sticker price for Vandy is 3x my state school... Did anyone else hear back?
dc2bslp Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Awww shucks. Thats awesome you have the in state though! I haven't heard yet... Did you get an email or did you call?
Saila09 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Awww shucks. Thats awesome you have the in state though! I haven't heard yet... Did you get an email or did you call? It came in the mail. Let me know if you hear anything! I am glad to have the options I guess.
dc2bslp Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Just got my letter too - Alternate for funding. Looks like I'm going to UMD! Unless anything shakes loose.
susanofmonaco Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Hey, there! I found out that I was an alternate for funding, and I'm going to attend the Open House on April 6th. Is anyone else planning a visit shortly?
mck1 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Hey! I just accepted my offer!! I also want to visit to look for housing, but I'm still trying to figure out the roommate situation! If anyone else is in the same boat feel free to message me! I can't wait to meet our class!
Yancey Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I do not want to sway you into not retaking the GRE, but I just wanted you to be aware that I think Vanderbilt looks at the whole applicant and how they fit will fit into that cohort, and do not just focus on one aspect. I was accepted to Vandetbilt's SLP program during the 2015 cycle and my Quant score was the same as your as was my writing. My verbal was just a few points higher. I know you want to do everything in your power to be accepted, but I thought I'd just share my experience. Good luck!Hello, ladies and gents! kellyfussman Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Yancey, I really appreciate the feedback! I just want to be as competitive as possible for Vandy, and I think that a higher GRE score would help with that. I love that Vandy looks at the entire student, not just scores! Best of luck to you in all that you do! P.S. If anyone has any questions about Nashville, I am a Nashville native and would be more than happy to share info about the different neighborhoods in Nashville (safety, amenities, etc.) or whatever else you're wondering about!
mck1 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Yeah it sounds like you would be a great applicant and I know that, at least for me, taking the GRE a second time helped my score a lot! I've been trying to figure out where to live, and with whom, so any suggestions of areas or apartments that you could give would be great!! kellyfussman 1
kellyfussman Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Thanks so much for the feedback, mck1! Congratulations on your acceptance to Vanderbilt! I think you'll really enjoy living and learning in such a wonderful city! The area near Vanderbilt is a very desirable place to live and, as a result, is pretty expensive compared to some other parts of Nashville. However, the area has a good reputation for safety. If you don't mind living about 10 miles west of campus, Bellevue is an excellent area, and traffic tends to be less terrible (haha) on the west side. My boyfriend has a home there and LOVES it! There are lots of apartment complexes in that area. Here is a resource from Vandy that lists rentals near campus. Scroll down to "Off Campus Housing Near Campus" for a really thorough list of properties within three miles of campus that are often not advertised on other websites. And just FYI--The Bill Wilkerson Center (where you will have classes and clinic) is on the southeast side of campus. Green Hills, Hillsboro Village, Sylvan Park, and the neighborhoods around Belmont University are all really nearby. Please let me know if there is anything else I can answer or help you find. Best of luck!
mck1 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 That's really helpful! Thanks so much!! kellyfussman 1
