460178985
Any one knows when will schools notify WL people the final decision? Just in general…
Whatishistoryanyway
Could be today, could be April 15th. There are a variety of different factors at play. Last year I said on the waitlist at ucsb for months.
460178985
i feel like even if some people turn down offer, the school may not open space to WL people... Is there anything I can do?
.letmeinplz//
Try looking at the schools you applied to on results search and see when wait listed people got notified. It isn't easy because results search doesn't have unique ids that let you follow a person's result journey but sometimes people will comment their rejection or acceptance was off the wait list. anonymous_soc
I would keep in touch with them throughout the process. That's what the committee chair at Stanford told me to do, and he said he would keep me updated with how things are going. I'm certain all programs are different, but checking in every now and then is probably a good idea. asheleeyang
I am wondering if it's possible that a school may wait list you without sending notification... Having seen a lot of acceptances/rejections posted on result search page but still no news for me... It's driving me crazy as I don't know if there is any hope. Last year the University of Minnesota sent out a batch of rejections along with its first round of acceptances, and sent out more acceptances in waves as they got a feel for the number of students who would be accepting their offer, but did not notify students in that limbo area unless asked. Until you hit the deadline for notifying schools, no news is not bad news.
Eigen
Lots of schools don't maintain official wait lists, but may go back to candidates that didn't make the initial cut if they have extra room/people decline. brokenwindow
Quorra
Yes, please keep in mind that not all schools have an "official" wait list where they inform you! My husband was accepted to a school for Sociology back in April, 2012. He never even knew he was on a wait list and assumed he had been rejected without notification. We were already making plans to move to another school he had an acceptance at. brokenwindow
asheleeyang
Thanks guys! I guess I'll have to just hang in there and wait :-) BTW, any ideas on what people can do if they are "unofficially" waitlisted? Do you think it's a good idea to send the department an email expressing interests & updating CV and grades? sangella925
I just received a waitlist notice for a PhD and I'm wondering how many usually end up on a waitlist?
460178985
Okay, I am not very positive about waitlist. I think most people on the waitlist will not get in. So here is the thing, say the school admits 20 people and plan to have a cohort of 7, then they will only admit WL people once 14 of admitted students turn down the offer... So the odd is so dim... anonymous_soc
I just received a waitlist notice for a PhD and I'm wondering how many usually end up on a waitlist? I really think it depends on the program. Stanford told me that the wait list I'm on there is very, very short. I think it is largely dependent on the percentage of admitted students whom are offered admission that typically accept the offer.

Good luck!
