I just checked the korbel website, is it true that the tuition is 40,000 per year?  So that would be 80,000 for the Master's program, just in tuition?  How do they expect anyone to pay for it??

I vowed not to go to grad school this year unless I got fellowships. Might seem naive to think I can pull that off but I have a family to think of. It's crazy how expensive schools in this field are.

^ Yes. I've recently just had a 'Plan B' presented to me and am slowly considering the idea of Fall 2016 admission if I do not get aid from my other 'top choices'.My Plan B will at least give me the opportunity to get that 'international' work/volunteer experience that I lacked as a person straight out of undergrad. I really loved this program and the idea of living there. It was my second top choice. I'm still keeping my doors open for my other programs that I have not heard from yet though.

Congrats. I was beyond excited too since it was my first acceptance. Hopefully, you'll be one of the lucky ones who gets funding from them.

I was accepted and offered $20k annually. Has anyone else heard back on funding yet? Would I be crazy to turn this down? I applied to the Peace Corps about a year ago but they didn't contact me for 6 months after the interview so I also applied to a few grad programs. It turns out the Coverdell fellowship for returned Peace Corps volunteers is only good for $5k annually and its impossible to tell if Korbel will offer me a comparable scholarship if I reapply in two years.

If I got 20k a year I would go there for sure. I was accepted a couple of days ago but didn't get any scholarships. However Penn State is offering me 20k (not sure if its per year or for the duration of the program).

Anyone have recommendations?

Yeah, similar issue here. I got offered a pretty good job, and funding from Korbel.... not sure what to do.

So if you were offered 20k annually from korbel, basically, they offered you a 50% scholarship?  Meaning you would be responsible for paying the other 25k (annually)?

@Petri, when did you hear from Penn State?  I have applied to the MIA program there but have not heard anything from them ;-(

I was offered 15k annually, but I'm holding out hope that isn't the total amount. They don't send out financial aid letters until later in the month or early April, so I'm waiting to see that first. I could get federal aid, endowed scholarships, work-study, etc. I'm also getting a 5k scholarship for being an AmeriCorps member this year. If I only have to pay back 40k in loans (meaning I get at least 20k each year), I'd be content.

Yes. If they gave me 20k each year I would have to cover the rest. Financial aid, loans, and whatever I can make while working part time would have to pay for it.

Hey. I also applied to the MIA program. I got a call today from a member of their admissions board telling me about the admission and the scholarship. I havent received any e-mails nor has anything on my application been changed reflecting my admission. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Admitted to the international security program with $12k/year offered. It's my understanding that offers of endowed scholarships will be made available later, no?

Background for context: bad GPA from mid-level state school, good GRE and LORs, 5 years professional experience with 2 abroad, German as a foreign language.

I just got an email asking me to consider applying to the Conflict Resolution program. I applied/got accepted to the International Studies program but wrote about my interest in Conflict resolution on my essay. Should I take this as a personal recommendation from the school?

Posted

I'm not sure what to make of this, either. I was accepted into security studies and also received it. My statement touched briefly on conflict resolution, among other conflict-related topics -- I mean, it can fall broadly within security studies -- but that was it.

Well they wrote on their site that they accept very few students to the Conflict Resolution program, so I never thought I had a shot.

Congrats. Did you get funding?

Out of all the programs I've been 'accepted' to, I like this one the most. It's not my number one choice, but  it is my second top choice.  I am still waiting on 2 more schools though. I'm just now on the fence of attending here and getting into a shitload of debt (I will be debt free for undergrad), waiting for my 2 other schools to come on through, or reapplying to everything for Fall 2016.
