ChatterBrain Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I just noticed that the two posts made on the results page yesterday (by myself and another user) asking questions of the person who posted his/her rejection to UC-CH are not there today. Is there a policy I'm not aware of, or do these type of posts tyically disappear? I see inquisitive posts there often and they seem to stay for years. Just curious.
.letmeinplz// Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) Result search is for results, I don't think a question is included in 'results'. I don't know of any policy moderating the results but I assume there is one. It also isn't a good place because someone who posts their results (for say MIT PhD CS) might not ever check the result search for CS, MIT, etc ever again. There is of course a forum on gradcafe that is a place for questions to other users. We may or may not be on it right now... :-D Edited February 24, 2015 by <ian> GhostsBeforeBreakfast, bindlestiff and MangoSmoothie 2 1
GhostsBeforeBreakfast Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I thought one of the primary reasons for sub forums was for these questions, silly me. It's becoming a major pet peeve of mine. GhostsBeforeBreakfast, .letmeinplz//, bindlestiff and 1 other 3 1

onedayslp Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I think a lot of people who post on the results page don't actually visit this forum. So for that reason, I do appreciate when people read questions and add additional information when asked. And from what I have seen, many posters do come back to add more info if requested. But I do understand why the website's admins would clean those posts out every now and then. bindlestiff 1
SLPFall2015applicant Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I didn't answer a question on the results page because I couldn't edit the results after I posted them, and I didn't want to repost because it would misrepresent the actual data. Forums are the best way to ask and respond to questions. When I posted results, there was also a notice saying that "wordy posts" often get deleted.

Use the forum for discussion - Gradcafe Submit Results page They specifically link the forum as a place for discussion, results page should be for results so people can use the page for results. ChatterBrain Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Thank you, everyone, for your responses. While I agree that, in theory, the forums may be the best place to ask and answer questions about admissions results, the reality does not necessarily follow. As onedayslp stated, many people tend to post on and check the results page without visiting the forums. I agree there is a much better chance of receiving an answer on the results search page. I was hesitant, myself, to post a question there yesterday because I didn't want to clog up the page, overexcite people looking for results from a particular school, or alter the stats. Maybe a request to gradcafe asking them to adjust the results page so that specific questions regarding admissions results could be posted and replied to without altering the stats or clogging up the page. I think I'll do just that :-). You never know! .letmeinplz// and bindlestiff 1 1
