Am I In?

Hey guys, long time lurker but first time poster.

I recently applied to a couple schools for their masters programs in international relations.

One of the schools I applied to (George Mason) doesn't send out admission decisions via internet (they use mail) but I usually check on the status of my application to see if anything is missing.

I checked today and saw that I have been given a George Mason ID and have been asked for official transcripts from my undergrad institution. I won't be able to go home and check the mail for a couple days but would being given an ID and asked for transcripts be a sign that I've been admitted? I called and they told me a decision has been made but cannot release it over the phone.

Thanks in advance!

I mean, if they told you that the decision was made and you know they were asking for transcripts, it's probably a good sign. Some of my programs assigned me various types of ID #s and required transcripts, but if they didn't ask for the transcripts until now, I would think it's likely you got in. I don't know though - everywhere is different! Can you have someone check the mail for you?

My family and I are out of town. I'm in no rush to check it immediately because I likely wouldn't be going there anyways but it would be nice to get confirmation. I am taking the transcripts and ID as a good sign considering I wasn't given an ID until they asked for a transcript. Thanks! Maybe I'll ask an aunt to check it for me haha.

Trust me I know how you feel. :)

From my experience universities assign IDs to ease their process of documents assembling. So that might be irrelevant from whether or not the decision has been made in your favour. On the other hand if they have specifically asked for official transcript, it does imply that you have passed most if not all the bars required to get admission. So either your application is in the final stage or you have been accepted.  There is also this policy of some universities to send out official acceptance only when they have received your official transcript, so that also implies that you most probably would have been accepted.

I applied to GMU as well.  They give you a "G number" upon application and only take official transcripts....or that was the case for me (PhD applicant).  Hope it's different for your process though!

I hadn't received a GMU ID number until now and I submitted my application 6 weeks ago and they also accepted unofficial transcripts during the application process so it may be a different process between Masters and PhD applicants

That seems like a plausible scenario. I did call and they said a decision has been made and I should expect my decision in the coming days (by snail mail it seems) so possibly I may recieve an admission that will require a transcript to become fully admitted.

All mute because I am not planning on attending anyways
