does external funding increase my chances of admission?

Hello Everyone,

 

I applied for Phd in Civil engineering in USA.

I'm international student.

I attached with my application a formal letter stating that I'm full funded. ( tuition, monthly salary and health insurance) 

 

 

I have a grad GPA 3.67.

 

honestly my file is not that impressive comparing to others profiles here.

 

 

I do not know if the external funding I have will help or not.

 

any idea guys?

External funding will definitely help your chances of admission.  The school views it as free money.  Try and talk directly with a POI and discuss it with them.

A prestigious grant will definitely help you- funding in general won't necessarily help. 

 

STEM programs in general have enough funding to support the students they want to accept, so they're more interested in finding students who fit with the program, and look like they will produce good work/go on to be successful than just finding people with funding.

I think it will help in some universities but not in top universities .

in any regard, you should definitely make sure that the schools know you're bringing funding with you. can't hurt.

I saw some students admitted without funding in the same college I applied for.

so the truth is that not all schools have enough funding.
