Does anyone know anything about UDC's program? I saw someone post on the results page not to apply here and that the drop out rate is extremely high...if anyone has any insight on this program I would greatly appreciate it!

I have no personal experience with the program, but I took a look at their site out of curiosity after I saw that post on the results page. According to ASHA Edfind it looks like they enroll around 17-20 students per cohort, but the latest student outcome stats on their site (2012-2013) show only 11 students graduating. Definitely something I'd do a little more digging about if you're considering going there; there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation but it's something to look into.

I did my research on the school before I applied and I did see that same statistic but I really want to be in th DC area without paying too much. I just wanted to hear from someone who has either been through their program or knows something more about it. As of late I keep finding people post negative things about the program but they never elaborate so it's just curiosity at this point. Thanks for replying!

I'm interested too! I was going to apply there until I got into UMD... I know they just finished a strategic planning process and revamped some things. My impression from getting application materials together was not the best (no one ever answered the phone or emails for weeks, and their online system is ancient). I ended up just tossing the application. It is very affordable for DMV area residents, though! Especially compared to GWU (rich kid school haha)

I totally agree!!! The application process was very strange and it took forever for someone to respond to me. I've even tried to reach out to current grad students but no one has responded its kind of suspicious ha. I also find it strange that their application deadline is not until May 2015...but congrats on getting into UMD that's awesome!

Thank you!! I was kind of shocked haha.  I think going to the open house and emailing the professors afterward expressing my interest in UMD as my top choice, research interests, etc. really helped. Good luck and keep us updated!

I was recently accepted into this program and have been thinking about attending it as well but so far I have read a lot of negative reviews. Most of them have been back from 2010 so I have been trying to find more recent reviews and have not found very many. Most of the reviews say that they pile of the work which is typical for an SLP graduate program but what makes me nervous is the reviews saying the faculty is unorganized.

Ditto DC2B - I had started my application but got into UMD before I finished. The application process was bad, and they took a month to email me back both times I emailed with questions.

I did the same thing as MonicaSLP! I started the application as a back up school and I received two acceptances (1 from my number one choice) so I did not finish the application. I emailed them numerous times and they took forever to respond and their program does not seem to have  a good rep. I've tried to talk to current grad students and no one has responded yet...

I haven't had any problems getting in touch with anyone from the University . They answered my phone calls and emails the same day and I've been in contact with them . I've also made arrangements to come visit the campus and I'm out of state .

Hi! I currently attend UDC's graduate SLP program. Tuition is definitely cheaper than most SLP programs...a true blessing. I LOVE the location...also a plus. This program throws you right into clinic...which makes sine because all of my classmates have previous experience of some sort. I'm guessing that's what they look for in students they admit. I think the poor graduation rates that you're referring to are because there were students that couldn't maintain the workload so they had to drop out. You have to be independent before you start this program...really know what you want and be ready to establish professional relationships. The administration is a bit behind in technology...which makes them look unorganized at times...the program really needs to transition into doing everything paperless. But the thing is, most of the professors are still practicing and don't have the time to "go paperless" if that makes sense. Their focus is about getting ready for the externships and networking for you. Year 1 is stressful and a HOT MESS but everything will fall into place and make sense right around your first summer session. CONFIDENCE is key and will take you far in this program. If you turn red when you're given corrective criticism and lose your mind when you're put on the spot, this program isn't for you.

I know this post is  old but I always try to do the mot research as possible before making a decision.  I just had an interview and the professors were super nice. How do you like the campus and the program? I am independent so I don't think this would be the program. Also I wouldn't even know where to live hahaha! I am excited as I hope to be accepted despite negative reviews. you have to experience things on your own.
