Has anyone heard any whispers from admissions or anything about possible release dates?

Posted

My girlfriend actually got pissed today that I was checking my phone every two minutes while on vacation, and called Jackson. 'Probably later this week'.

Hey guys - I don't think someone at Jackson would necessarily know exactly when they are released. The admissions committee at Jackson passes their recommended admits to the general graduate admissions board, and then they process it and then release.

This is mostly wishful thinking as I am living inside my gmail essentially - but it could be that the general committee has the information and it's just waiting for them to get through the backlog of other departments.

(Now back to going insane with the wait).

Accepted through an email link to the website. Funding info to come through snail mail.

To all those who did not get in: don't lose hope and best of luck with other programs! I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in two countries, worked as the program manager of a human trafficking NGO, have stellar GREs/GPA and didn't get accepted into all my programs (rejected by WWS). Yale and Princeton are by far the most selective and difficult to get into among the Big 6 IR programs, which means a lot of great, highly qualified applicants don't get in, esp if they are similar in background and experience to other slightly more impressive applicants. So don't take it to heart.

Agreed! I was rejected by WWS too, and as cliche as it sounds, in my case it came down to the right fit. Will you be attending Jackson?

For me it's all gonna come down to funding. From reading Jackson forums from earlier years and checking out their student blog I think the program is incredible in every way: small class size, amazing cohort, faculty and flexibility to take classes across other schools, top-notch career services... It's all very hard to pass up - unless I have to take out massive loans, in which case it becomes significantly easier to pass up. First there was the cruel anticipation of getting admitted, and now the agonizing wait for funding info begins... What are your thoughts?

I'm in the same boat. Since I'm interested in working in a developing country in the public sector, I don't want to be too encumbered by loans. With that said, I'm studying a language that should qualify me for FLAS funding (although I know it's not 100%) so that will help a lot. But still, it feels like this process never ends :) can't wait to see what's in that letter! Best of luck to you for funding; they seem pretty generous with it based on the website anyway...

Not much else to do at this point but cross our fingers and hope for the best... With any luck next week we'll both have some good news!

Check your email... You will find another message with attachments.

My "official" offer letter was attached, and unfortunately, I was not awarded a fellowship :(

So, I wrote to their office to inquire about FLAS and other sources. We will see what happens. Hope your news is better!

Got it with 50% tuition scholarship

It's 2:43am in India and I don't think I'll be able to sleep for another 6 months. So many long nights of hard work, studying for GREs and writing essays and it's paid off.

Good luck to everyone else. Considering I didn't get Princeton and Columbia didn't offer me any aid, I think this might be the one. Waiting to hear from SAIS tomorrow.

This is kind of a weird question but I'm just looking for other opinions. How much debt would it be reasonable to go into for a Jackson degree? I can cover living expenses, but I'll be on my own for tuition. I have no undergrad debt. What would you do in my shoes?

I think it depends what your employment prospects are after you graduate. If you're a US/EU citizen and you can get a nice dollar or euro paying salary back home without too much hassle, then going into debt isn't an issue. I wouldn't go into more than $20k debt, personally, since my home country is India and even though I don't plan to return afterwards, paying off an $80,000 debt in a Rupee/Asian salary may not work.

My general thumb rule through my masters has been to not go into debt under any circumstances since employment isn't "guaranteed" to the same extent as an MBA. But with 50% from Yale, I'm only short of funding my living costs over 2 years and going into debt is looking tempting.

Thank you :) It still hasn't sunk in. I'm still a bit short on finances and would need an external scholarship/loan for the remaining 30% of the cost.
