NSSLHANerd
Hello friends! Had an interview at St. Cloud State last Friday. People got acceptance calls today and posted to the results search. I know it's not the end of the day yet but I'm starting to think I am getting waitlisted or a "soft rejection". Does anyone have any information on this situation? It's really tough to be here because I've been waiting by my phone for a week waiting for a call. I just don't know if there is still the possibility of an acceptance :/ Edited March 6, 2015 by NSSLHANerd
the_bee's_knees
Hello, I'm one of the people who received a call today. I was left a message, but am working a double today and won't be out until after the school closes. I know that in my message, I was told that SCSU starts their spring break next week and no one will be in, and was asked to call back with my questions. I got the vibe that SCSU is feeling out their prospective candidates to see who is likely to accept and who is not. I'm sorry I don't have more info, but I'm a distance candidate and most of what I know about them is limited to what I read on gradcafe and what I read from SCSU's website. Good luck! I hope to meet you in the future!
SLPosteriorCricoarytenoid
Thanks for the info, it is much appreciated! I guess it is safe to say that the rest of us who haven't heard a peep are likely waitlisted. Feeling somewhat bummed out about this one!
NSSLHANerd
Waitlist emails have been sent out. Not sure if they are still sending them.
SLPosteriorCricoarytenoid
Just though I'd share that the waitlist email mentioned that there were over 180 applicants this year...That's quite a bit more than they've had in past years. Of course it had to be the year that there are less spots than usual. *sigh* I will keep hoping for the best for all of us who really like SCSU. I hope we can all get closure sometime soon with what is going on here (Wow, does this sound depressing or what?!). I sound like I'm talking about a failed relationship here but it often feels like it! Haha.
the_bee's_knees
Can someone tell me how many less St. Cloud is accepting this year? I keep hearing this mentioned but I don't know about it. I think the normal cohort size for them is 14-18? Also, does anyone know why?
SLPosteriorCricoarytenoid
This year I believe the target class size is ~10. There are normally ~15 admitted each year. They admitted 5 phase I post-baccs last year who transition into phase II in the fall. Since there are already 5 phase 1s in the cohort that leaves about 10 spots for new admits. This is what I have been told anyway.
NSSLHANerd
If you are in fear of not being waitlisted, have no fear! I called the SCSU Graduate office and they told me they are emailing ALL applicants (180) within the next few days and we will all be getting an email, letter, or both. They have other programs to email students back from as well so there is a huge stack on their desk and we should not be worried if we interviewed and have still not heard back! sara.lovecheck
Can I ask what you like about St. Cloud? I'm a student from University of Illinois, lived in Illinois (Chicago) my whole life and I'm thinking of brancing out. I have been accepted to several programs and I'm having a hard time deciding. I really liked the people I interviewed with, I like the town and the program, but does anyone have any insight into what makes St. Cloud great? Any information is extremely helpful. Thank you! SLPosteriorCricoarytenoid
I'm kind of impartial as far as the St. Cloud area goes. I grew up in this area and I would rather be somewhere else (geographically) but I mainly like the program because of the professors. I don't really like St. Cloud but that is probably because it is not a new and exciting place for me. I did my undergraduate degree elsewhere and ended up back in the area to do more schooling to prepare for a degree in SLP. Also, SCSU is known to be a party school and I am not into the party scene. There are some rough areas as could be expected. I often times don't like walking at night from class but it isn't a major concern. The dimly lit streets are a little scary at times when you're walking alone. The downtown area can also be sketchy at night. I have been there multiple times when more times than not I have not felt safe. I am happy being a commuter and living elsewhere. Those are things unrelated to the program though. However, the SLP program is very appealing to me. I really like the professors and everything else about the program. All in all, I guess I have just never really liked the area, per se. That is my two cents so take it as you wish.
sara.lovecheck
I appreciate your response.. professors being great sounds like a good idea though. Thanks! If anyone else has any information I greatly appreciate it!
SLPosteriorCricoarytenoid
Is anyone on here who was accepted at St. Cloud declining their offer and going elsewhere? I am just looking for more information on whether or not I should even be thinking about this program anymore. I've heard some rumors about the status of spots currently open, but you never know how reliable rumors are. I feel like the ugly second choice prom date waiting to hear if I will get asked to prom or not. Lol. I am happy to be waitlisted though.

SLPosteriorCricoarytenoid
Thank you! I'm still in limbo with St. Cloud, as usual. I see you've made your final decision, congrats! That must be such a relief to have it set in stone where you are going! I am to the point of just wanting to know a final decision so I can be put out of my misery! Lol. NSSLHANerd
Hearing nothing from a school when you know that other people are being accepted/waitlisted/rejected. I heard some schools may do this to keep people "on call".
