I'm applying to Radford University in Virginia, for the MFA in Studio Art - 2D. I have quite a few reasons to like the program and the school. However, my goal is to teach.  I should be able to get into a higher ranked school. Am I hurting my chances by going to a lower ranked college?

In my opinion and based on people I've talked to (art professors and curators), you are at a disadvantage going to a lower ranked school for becoming a professor, but it's a surmountable disadvantage.

It might just take you longer than someone who goes to one of the top schools to become a professor. Four to eight years adjuncting and building up a resume teaching I hear would be normal. On the other hand, many of the top schools are very expensive so you'd have to take out loans possibly. Loans are a disadvantage and prison within themselves as well and you have no guarantee to becoming a professor.

Yea, just my opinion, take it or leave it
