So I'm am currently waiting for responses from three more grad schools, but my gpa overall is not the greatest. Has anyone had any experience with retaking classes and then being accepted the 2nd time they apply

I didn't retake classes, but since I was coming from a different major I took the prereqs after getting rejected, and then got into the school I got rejected from. My essay was mostly the same, I didn't retake GRE, most of my letters of recommendation were the same (I added a professor) - the only thing that changed were the grades from additional classes.

This is my second year applying. Like MonicaSLP, I took more prerequisites that my undergrad school didn't offer but that a lot of the schools I was applying to this year either required or preferred you to have. However, I was told by professors at my undergrad that getting anything below a B in prereq or the ASHA required (physical science, etc.) classes, was not good. I got a C in biology when I first took it freshman year, so I decided to retake it senior year and got a much better grade. It did not change my GPA (depends how your school does things), but I was told that it would show I wanted to improve and learn the material.

How did you take additional prereqs? Did you do it online or at a diff undergrad?

Last semester I took them online at Utah State University and this semester I've been taking them online at Longwood. It just depends what classes you need. I know Utah State has a "2nd Bachelor's Degree Program" for Communicative Disorders, but if you don't need all of that, you can just take a few classes without getting the full degree. I have taken two classes each semester and it's been really good!

ASHA prerqs too? I've heard the grades on those don't count as much as COMD classes. Can someone confirm this?

I don't know for sure but I would guess that they probably don't count as much. However, I think they were just saying that any C's in ASHA prereqs or COMD prereqs don't look good to graduate schools.
