VISA Problem

Hi I am considering a PhD position at UBC, Vancouver, Canada. I have heard that this may restrict my intern opportunities at US locations. I bear an Indian passport. Is it true that while holding Canada study visa (the one that international graduate students hold), it may be difficult to have US intern visa? Is there any prohibitive factor here? 

 

Any help will be highly appreciated.

I know people from UBC CS phd who have done internship at USA (IBM watson NY and MSR Redmond which is close to Vancouver). I don't know the exact class of visa they used. But people have done internships.
